Got a call from Don Price at St. Lawrence restorations in Clayton.
He has a 1930 48' Commuter. Here is an old listing.

They have removed the engines and are willing to give it to someone that will do it.
Call Don if interested.

Re: 1930 48' Commuter FREE
I really hope someone takes her on... a truly rare boat, but it would be an expensive restore.... but well worth it.
Re: 1930 48' Commuter FREE
Years ago when the boat appeared on ebay. Seth Katz told me he bought it.
Re: 1930 48' Commuter FREE
He did. Then he sold it. It was brought to Clayton where the engines were sold from it. It's one of those last chance deals. Probably be cut up by winter if no one steps up.

A worthy project which would require deep pocket. How about the New Chris Craft Corp.? It would be great PR for them and certainly a thrill for wood CC guys if they documented the restoration on the Buzz. Somebody should give them a call. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Re: 1930 48' Commuter FREE
The bottom line is that the cost of this boat is so far beyond the means of even most of the more affluent participants in our hobby that it is likely doomed. No one knows what it would cost to restore, but I would think $750k is a reasonable starting point. Once the boat is done, what is it worth? $300-$500k to a very special buyer? So, does anyone feel passionately enough to spend the money and suffer a certain financial hit for the privelege of doing restoring it? Big cruisers in decrepit condition can seldom be given away, and though this Commuter is certainly more unique than almost any of them, the basic financial considerations are what they are.
It is sad, but unless a corporate interest that wants an image, "brand" or a certain experience for its' clients (perhaps a high-end lakeside resort somewhere to do tours or transport guests, or as was suggested - CC) steps up and can write the cost off somehow, it just does not seem likely that it will be saved.
I have looked at this for years - even when it was on E-Bay 5 years ago. I would loved to have got it but there was no way I was going to get into the costs of this. Just too far beyond my means. If Seth Katz isn't looking at it and Ploetner has let it go, you know it is probably just too far gone to make any sense to a rational buyer.
