drain plugs on a KLC engine

Winterizing? Summerizing? Covering? Trailering? If it is about a boat out of water put it here.

drain plugs on a KLC engine

Post by Captbob626 » Thu Jan 05, 2012 9:56 am

Can someone tell me where all the drain plugs are on a KLC engine? I want to make sure I have all the water out of the block. This engine has a thermostat mounted. I ran antifreeze through the engine but I was thinking it may not have been hot enough to open the thermostat so antifreeze got into the block. Just want to make sure it doesn't freeze up over the winter.
Thank you,
Bob

Here is the instructions from the owners manual from a 53 KLC. It does't give a diagram, but it does give a description on how to drain it. Hope this helps.

Bob, try a ratchet wrench. Slips right over the plug without having to get your hands in there. Getting it back in is the hard part. John

Restoration Supply Company sells a real nice bronze petcock, much better than the usual radiator drains. They come in 1/8" and 1/4", the 1/8" probably what you want for that block drain. Once it is installed, you just turn the wing nut handle. Get one for the base of your water pump, too.

Google Restoration Supply Company, click on Alemite grease fittings. In about the center of the page is the petcock, part FLU051
