How to support a 23' to do bottom painting?

Winterizing? Summerizing? Covering? Trailering? If it is about a boat out of water put it here.

What is the best way to support a 23' Continental to allow access for bottom paint?

My opinions and experiences for "best way":

Remove the engine, makes the boat about 1000 pounds lighter

Use boat stands designed for use in supporting a boat with swivel 12" X 12" tops. Use 1 pair at the transom, 1 pair about mid length and chain them together so one shouldn't skid out accidentally

Use blocking on the forward part of the keel

You will have to relocate the stands for sanding and painting, so having a spare stand allows you to substitute one while removing another.

-or-

Flip the boat upside down and support at the gunnels and stringers so all your work is facing down instead of upside down. I've done it both ways and working upside down is the hardest.

Supports like these. Different boat than a CC Continental but you get the idea. This 25 foot Lyman was too big to roll over in the shop I had at that time.

Thanks, kind of what of I thought, but, the engine will remain in. Some blocking under the engine as well?

It couldn't hurt to have supports under the engine stringers but you don't want too many obstacles to getting the bottom work done.

Work safe!
