The Brass Bell, Vol. XXXVIII, No. 2

Post by Al Benton » Fri Jan 04, 2013 9:53 pm

The new Brass Bell should start showing up in your mailboxes very soon. It's yet another amazing publication that will knock your socks off when you see it. The content and appearance is better than ever.

When you get yours please let us know. Take time to enjoy it for a while but then, break away long enough to post a note. This will provide some tracking as it begins showing up in your area.

Jim, and All Canadian Members, it's hard to understand what has happened here. We shipped the last issue twice to All Non-U.S. members. Although we heard from a couple of members in other countries, we have not heard that ANY of those mailed to Canada have been received.

Paul Harrison, a Canadian, and Don Ayers are heading up a continuing investigation regarding this, unfortunately, with very little satisfaction to date.

We assure you that we will not give up. This is a TOP Priority for the BOD and WILL be resolved soon. The latest issue of The Brass Bell will be handled by a different mailing house that has excellent experience in International mailing.

I am sure that Don and Paul will respond to this with the very latest information regarding this major issue.

Al is correct in his enumeration of the problems with delivery of Canadian-destined Bell magazines from the fall issue. We are working to solve this mystifying problem, and are receiving great support from our service providers - most notably CCABC member and Brass Bell printer Greg Nieberding in Dallas, Tx.

Concerning the issue just mailed this week, a new mailing house was in fact used and the method of mailing is traceable by address so we anticipate no repeat problems with the new Bell.

Although the problem issue was mailed in the same manner as all previous Ball magazines had been for years with no widespread delivery problems, the vexing issue of non-delivery occurred twice in a row. What is very perplexing, and an issue for which we have received no answer whatsoever from the USPS, was that none were delivered, none were returned to sender and we were never contacted about any issue. Both mailings simply vanished. No one has had this happen before and no one knows why it happened.

We are quickly determining if there are sufficient extra copies to undertake a third mailing with the new mailing house, using the trackable mailing system we have just resorted to. Impacted members will be advised of the situation at the earliest opportunity, within no more than a couple of days. The BOD regrets the inconvenience to Canadian members and will continue to work to ensure that the problems are resolved. In the meantime, if any Canadian members have received the Fall Brass Bell, please advise. To date, we are not aware of any members receiving it, myself included.

Suggest that Canadian mail should not be entered into the USPS, but bulk shipped to a Canadian mail company to enter into the Canada Post.

We just received word of our first Canadian addressee getting delivery of the first mailing from September. Somehow, and we have no idea how, it arrived to him in Ontario, Canada from Dallas, TX via Sweden! He is scanning the postmarks to us so it can be taken up with the USPS.

A THIRD batch of the this issue was mailed yesterday using our new International mailing house, and all International and Canadian recipient should have the magazine very shortly.

Also mailed was the most recent issue, just finished last week. We definitely hope that these international mailing issues are solved.

Before the management change, I recall that the Brass Bells always came to Canada via Sweden.

Got my long-delayed Issue 1 today, complete with a postmark from Malmo, Sweden. Other messages from Canadian members indicate they are all being delivered. I can't wait to find out what happened here, seeing as nothing any different from the June mailing was done and there were no reported problems with that. Wonder when the second mailing of #1 will show up, and if it to will have a Swedish postmark? I hope to never encounter this problem again!

I received my copy in Florida today. Nice 80deg weather so I guess the postal service could deliver. It went straight to the library so I could study over the next few weeks.

It would really be great if our Canadian members would use the second copy ( if it shows up) to help with recruiting new members. By passing it on to someone who might be interested, you could encourage them to consider the joining the club and enjoying the Brass Bell and the other club benefits on an ongoing basis. Thanks for anything you might do in this regard!
