Member Advertising Question

Post by farupp » Sun Oct 15, 2006 7:18 am

Hi Bill and Wilson:

Boat Buzz is great and a wonderful improvement to the old member clicks system. Thank you for your hard work!

Question: Is there a way for CCABC club members to advetise boats for sale, parts for sale, things wanted, etc., without having to wait for the next issue of the club magazine (beautiful by the way) to be printed and distributed?

If there isn't would you consider it?

Thanks,

Frank, this is a good question...and one that we have been at work to find a better way. Yes, there is an online Trading Dock. Just forward your information via email to [email protected], and I will post it online.

To give you all a few more details as to where we are going. The current Trading Dock on chris-craft .org, has some limitations. For exampe, we have not ever allowed photos. There is no search function. And there is no way the poster of an ad to see how much traffic his/her listing is generating.

We are currently developing an entirely different Trading Dock site, which will continue to be free for all. We will allow photos. You will admin your own ads...posting them yourself and retiring them yourself. The new site will be searchable, You will be able to saves ads to your "favorites" or watched ads, just like on eBay. You will also be able to tell how many "views" your ad is receiving. There willl also be email notifications built into this site, so you can be kept abreast of many things.

Stay tuned. Trading Dock will change dramatically before the end of the year.

I participate in another phpBB-based forum for my sailboat. In that forum they have created a section titled Boats for Sale or Wanted. You can easily see how many times it has been viewed and pictures can be posted with outside photo posting websites. It seems to work reasonably well in the other forum.

Don, good thoughts. It's not that were not able to put something in place to handle buy/sell transactions on Boat Buzz, it's just that we only need to handle these in one place and not introduce two places to do this. When it is rolled out, it will be absolutely seamless between Boat Buzz and Trading Dock.

Also, keep in mind, Boat Buzz is for members only. When it comes to classifieds, we want to get the ads out to as many as possible, members and non-members.
