Beavers

Post by [email protected] » Tue Mar 25, 2025 5:11 pm

Has anyone ever had a beaver take a few bites out of their Chris Craft? If so, any recommendations to prevent it?

Wow, that's a new one! We live on a lake full of beavers, our sedan is in the water year round, we've had boats in the water for decades, never even heard of this.

Since that beaver is obviously not looking to chew the transom off and haul it to it's dam, your boat was probably in the right place at the wrong time. They have to constantly chew on things to keep their teeth worn down, they never stop growing. It probably felt a need to grind down a little and your boat was the closest wood. I would be surprised if it came back. The flat hull of a boat doesn't seem like the best place to practice beaver dental care.

We manage the water level of our lake with the beaver's dam, we've been trying to manage their population for close to 50 years. They haven't responded to anything we have ever tried to push them away from somewhere or entice them someplace else. The only thing that has ever helped has been to trap them. If this does become a continuing problem, that would probably be your only remedy.

Hope this was a one time swim by!
