Website Photo Contest

If it doesn't pertain to metal, wood, wire or fabric—but it is about vintage Chris-Crafts, ask your question or give your advice here.

Website Photo Contest

Post by quitchabitchin » Wed May 11, 2016 9:19 pm

Good Evening-

As we are in the middle of a full CCABC website rebuild, which will include many more photos on various pages, we need your help. We are looking for pictures that really show what the Club is about. We are looking for many high quality pictures you have taken over the years to use on the new website. Action shots, early morning dock shots, close up detail shots, whatever you've got!!!

Here's how it will work:
-Post your picture below.
-The Fabulously Fantastic Website Picture Committee(Okay, I made that up, but us BOD members) will review all photos submitted below.
-If we see one that we feel will possibly fit into the new Website, you will receive a Private Message with an invite to a OneDrive folder where you can upload a High Resolution photo file.
-When the website comes online in a couple of months, you may see your photo on one of the pages. Some will be static, and some will be in a rotation such as our header on the Home Page.

Here are a few rules in order to be considered:
1. This is possibly the most important-You MUST OWN the photos you submit. Please do not send us anything that has been downloaded from someone else's page, a magazine, a friend, neighbor, or anyone else for that matter. We cannot have a Copyright issue with our new site. By submitting a photo, you are giving the CCABC permission to use the picture.

2. The image must be high quality. Our new site will use many large photos, so we need them to be a minimum of 1600 Pixels across at 72 DPI. This is to ensure the picture will remain high quality on the website.

3. The pictures have to be awesome!!! We want to include any and all Chris Craft models, materials(that means fiberglass to folks), engines, sizes, etc. We have the need for 100 or more pictures to sort for the new site, so if you have a great shot, please post it as a reply below.

Thank you all for your CCABC Membership and let's have some fun with this!!

Left the dock at a show with two screaming and crying kids and one stressed out mom. 30 minute ride. Priceless.

Laclede

Thanks for your insight and photos. We certainly want to make sure all facets of Chris Craft are well represented. Obviously, the big part of our site will include very nice header type photos that will rotate in and out on a cycle. We feel there will be a need for these to be good, not necessarily extreme professional photos, but nice quality pictures that do not need a story to explain what's happening. We all know how much we love great header photos. Many members have that one shot where they have captured the moment just right. A while back on our Facebook Group, a guy posted a beautiful picture of a Lancer. While not a hugely collectible boat or even a highly restored boat, the guy captured a picture that was simply stunning. We are looking for all types of pictures that will look great blown up across the top of the screen.

Other pages will have photos for categories such as Archive, Hull Registry, etc. These will remain in place for some time, and will be mainly simple Chris Craft photos that may change out occasionally, but for the most part will be static in a sense.

Where the heart of the Membership will come into play is in a new Boat of the Week category/feature. We haven't started that process just yet, but I think this is where we will have more candid shots of these boats being used and will include a story about the owner, history, lineage, etc. Stay tuned for more on this.

The reason we are creating a call to action by the Members is that we really want the Members to participate and show us some of those shots that may be sitting in an old album or shoebox. Remember, we have tons of archives Brass Bell pictures, so we could certainly dug through them and probably fill all of the spots, but we really want some Membership involvement here.

Simply posting a picture is fine, or if you want to include a story as well, that's good too. There are no real rules other than you must have the rights to the picture you posted so if it is used, we don't end up in trouble with a Copyright situation. We do ask that all pictures be appropriate for a website so that all audience members, including prospective members, can enjoy them and not be offended.

So far, we have seen some great shots and will be submitting some of them for final editing and approval by the website team. We need roughly 100 quality photos for the team to review and pare down to the final selections.

Thanks to everyone for their contributions, both past and future. Post away, we've got plenty of server space.

There's a wealth of information on this site, but it scattered around everywhere and a pain in the neck to find specifics. I'd love specifics about each model produced. Kind of like a page from The Essential Guide with much more detail. Its a great idea to focus on one model at a time in a boat of the week or boat of the month segment. That way all the info and everything currently known about each specific boat can be consolidated and easily found as a reference. Coordinate with the Mariners Museum and really get down to the details. One of my favorite things to do is to thumb through The Essential Guide, pick a model, and then research it. I want to know more about each boats design, history, what's great about it, what's not so great about it, and all the little details like, construction materials, hardware used, original power, colors and finishes offered, upholstery and options, etc. I can't own them all but I'd love to know as much about each one as possible. It'll be a lot of fun to see what comes across the site and how much info on each featured boat is out there. Could be some personal storylines along with the boat specs and might even be one for sale somewhere. Who knows? Pick a Chris Craft, any Chris Craft. Their all good!

Thanks for he input Joanroy. We are in the process of cleaning up the Archive, I'm not exactly sure of the details, but do know that there is a full project dedicated to the Online Archive. Maybe one of the other Members involved in that can elaborate.

The idea of the Classic Boat/Chris Craft Wiki that was started with great intentions a few years ago was to do just what you are saying. Unfortunately, it was left open to anyone to modify the contents and apparently, there were some people adding things that didn't belong and it is actually locked at the moment to.prevent any further contamination. It would be great to have it up and.running again, but the volunteer hours needed for moderation aren't there at this time.

Your feedback makes a good point for discussion amongst the Board. We appreciate it and will discuss it after the website is complete.

I'm not sure if you saw my message under Club Business, but the BOD approved to reprogram Trading Dock to allow CCABC Members in good standing to post ads for Free on that site. This was just recently approved and I don't have a timeline just yet, but it is just one of the ways we are looking to improve our Member's value proposition. We appreciate your membership. Keep you eyes out for this change soon.

I'm glad your bringing this back.It was one of the nice things about being in the CCABC back in the day. As a member you would get two free ads a year or one permanent ad a year in the brass bell.

Hey is a picture of my 1961 23' Chris Craft on Emma Lake Sk Canada. If I would have to title I it I would call it "A Hard Days Work" I was from July 1, 2015 hence why I was flying the Flag. We pretty much did everything we could this day the kids tubed and we toured for a while and tubed and swam and finished off with some fishing. I took this picture from the deck of the cabin just after the wind blew up the tube from the dock on to the boat. It captured the whole day in quick frame. Maybe I should call the picture "One fun day"

It's a small world no doubt, recently my brother came to me with some pictures his neighbor gave him of a boat he was looking to buy back in 1991. As it turned out it was my boat (Miss Dot) that I purchased in 1998, this is one of the pictures he took back then that I had converted from the negative to digital, thought this was a neat shot, looks like it may have had some white sides at one time. :)
