Where to buy an impeller

Post by Jbyerspe » Thu May 28, 2015 7:50 am

I need an impeller for a 1958 Cavalier K series engine. Does anyone know of a good source?

I am not sure there is a standard size for that engine. You may need to remove the old one (hopefully you still have it) and then look at it. Measure it-overall diameter, depth, size of shaft opening, type of shaft-keyway or spline, number of arms. Then google impellers and find a supplier. If you can find a Globe impeller, they are the best. Google globeimpellers and there are several suppliers.
Good luck!

If your pump has a grease cup on it then you won't be needing one.

They made at least seven different pumps for the K engine. You need to know the make and model. Several had the model stamped on the mounting surface. You need to remove it to see it.

Thanks Greg. It does have a grease cap, but I'm a little uncertain of how to use it. Do you screw the cap down tight, or do you pack enough grease in the cap to be able to push grease into the pump as you need it by screwing the cap in further?

Also, what kind of grease do you use?

That's right, fill with grease and turn down a 1/2 turn at a time to help seal up and prime the system. If you can find "water pump" grease that is ideal. Others can be substituted. We have used Mercury marine "2 4 C" lube with success.
