Re: Constellation Double Planked?
All Connies are double planked, but not the way you may think. The inner plank, about 2" wide, is secured to the frame with the outer planks secured with each seam located over the inner plank. Search the construction detail of the CC Constellation to see a diagram of the construction detail.

Jim I am searching this subject now and am not coming up with the diagrams you are speaking about. If you have a link can you please post it here. I am sure American Beauty if diagonally double planked on her bottom, single planked on the top sides, and triple planked in the stern where the "shingles/wedges" are located.Jim Bell wrote:All Connies are double planked, but not the way you may think. Re: Constellation Double Planked?
Bobbystone if you look in your engine compartment and look at the seams of the planks, they should be running at about a 30-45 degree angle to the keel. The outer planks should be parallel to the keel. (ie diagonally double planked)

Re: Constellation Double Planked?
Beginning with the 1959 model year most Chris-Craft boats received plywood inner planking in lieu of the solid mahogany diagonal inner planking. This is fairly true for all except the 17' Sportsman, which received the plywood inner layer beginning in 1953. All received thicker outer mahogany planks that ran parallel to the keel. So Yes - double planked, being a '58 model the inner planking is with diagonal mahogany strips.
