Hull card received!

Post by PaulK » Thu Mar 27, 2014 8:23 pm

Hi All,

I received my package from the mariners museum today. VERY INTERESTING!

There were a couple of very custom things on my boat according to hull card. These included Teak decks and black hull paint. However, my hull number sk-30-207 indicates a semi enclosed and mine is an express cruiser this change was not indicated on the card so did the transformation happen after delivery?????

But anyway here are some pics of the hull cards

C.P. stands for chrome plated.

Rubber strut bearing, also known as a cutlass bearing like all modern inboards use.

Jim,

That makes a lot more sense than house! Thanks!

Anybody know what #20 refers to?

Hi, Paul-

That's a great hull card!

It's fun to read examples where the boat has been heavily 'pimped' with lots of extra personal flourishes and custom treatments for the original owner.

The bright-finished mahogany cabin sides (normally all painted on a standard skiff) really stand out (I think she'd look outstanding in her original low-sheen black hull).

The extended canvas top and enclosure had chrome-plated bows (they were normally galvanized on skiffs), and the CP windshield trim must refer to the chromed moldings around the swing-out windshield panels... some boats have none, others (like my boat) had them painted deep red-brown to blend in.

Teak decks, Dutch doors, fish wells...this boat was really custom-tailored to be something special to her first owner...take good care of her, and keep her P-U-R-E.

See if you can track down any members of her original family- perhaps they could share some pictures and memories from back in her early days?

Grant,

That is a great idea to try and track down the family! I am going to do that.

I am thinking more and more about doing this boat back to "original" now that I realize how special she was from the factory and with the black hull. I LOVE dark hull boats and was going to do it dark blue but now that original was black I am thinking it was fate.

I was surprised and thrilled to see that the teak was original because I really like it and was going to keep it even if it was not.

The more I learn the more I want to keep it true...I am going to upgrade all systems and make it comfortable for our modern lifestyle but keep it as true as is practical.

Someone already switched out the engines to 283s so I am not going back on that.

Thanks again for your interest!
