I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next episode of 'Making the Keelsons'. I was momentarily perplexed by what seemed to be a machined cut at the near end. Turns out it is the shadow cast by a clamp. See..... the Shadow knows!

Thanks again, this is very helpful and reassuring to know that my planned approach is ok (not executed yet, but planned ok). I am sweating about boring the shaft hole though. I think the jig your guys made up is cool but beyond me. I am worried because when I worked in my dad's machine shop during the summer ($00.80 an hour!) the foreman and the machinists always said the setup was the most important thing, otherwise you make scrap! I have ideas but it will take time to build up the nerve to start boring. I will practice on pine like iwally.
