1948 Chris Craft Runabout Deluxe Storage Cradle

Post by Valley Girl » Tue Oct 27, 2020 11:30 am

I have a 1948 Chris Craft Runabout Deluxe that I will be storing in a boathouse over the winter. I'm trying to determine the best way to support her as she rests on timbers for an extended period of time. If possible, I would like to build a cradle similar to what she would have been first delivered on. Does anyone have or know where I could get the design to build a shipping cradle for a 1948 Chris Craft Runabout Deluxe?

Each model had a different cradle. So you would want to match one up to your boat. Hope this helps. BTW, I use metal ones that have wheels so I can move the boats around. But thats for working on them in the barn.

Shipping cradles are just as there are called and where for shipping only because they don't support the boat completely. It would work but I'm not sure I would not support the boat long term or winter after winter that way. The best way is like a trailer is set up with bunks running forward and aft just outside the stringers. Here is a document from Chris Craft that they used in 1965 maybe you could integrate some bunks.
