1948 16ft Runabout what is it

If it doesn't pertain to metal, wood, wire or fabric—but it is about vintage Chris-Crafts, ask your question or give your advice here.

It's a self bailer. Drains water while under way. Make sure the small vent on top is always open.

There have been lots of debates on woody boater.com about the Risks of self bailers.theprudent thing is to do is to disable the thing before you wakeup some morning and find your boat at the bottom of the lake.

I should add that 6 volt bilge pumps are available and highly desirable as a substitute.

Hi Don thanks for the info,I have a bilge pump that works fine on auto and Manuel. So going back to the auto bailer I guess I should disconnect the rubber tube and block the outlet to the hull is that correct before I take it to the broads for the first time ?

I cant remember how mine was done by the restorer. plugged outside the hull somehow so that interior still had an authentic look. i assume that capping the end of the copper tube would work but best to talk to someone with some expertise as to the best way to do it.

No matter how you plug it you should turn the through hull around in case your plug fails.

Maybe plumbers putty ?

I did mine the hard way - new bottom.
