Hello from FL newbie ‘41 16ft runabout

If it doesn't pertain to metal, wood, wire or fabric—but it is about vintage Chris-Crafts, ask your question or give your advice here.

Hello from FL newbie ‘41 16ft runabout

Post by NORTHJOE » Sat Apr 18, 2020 10:14 pm

Hello group,

I joined a little while back and since things are slow with everything going on I’m finally digging into projects that have been on the back burner and I thought an introduction was in order. My father took me to a sunnyland event in central FL when I was young and it’s where my spark was lit to eventually be an owner of one of fine vessels I had seen. I’ve been actively looking for a project for the past 10 years that was within my budget and not a basket case and finally the planets aligned about a year ago and I found the 1941 Chris craft 16’ runabout.

I’m quite good with oily metal bits but wood work is a black magic art to me. In a perfect world I’d let this be the project to help me demystify the art of it but I’d like to be able to take my dad out in the boat to a local show and the learning curve/time wouldn’t be on my side to accomplish that goal. So now that I have some spare time I’m working on getting the boat stripped of its mechanical and electrical and will start looking for a place in Florida to do the wood work.

This forum has already been a big help just from reading and most recently clearing up engine details/history for me. Looking forward to picking your brains and soaking up some knowledge. Thanks in advance for the help!
