I may be jumping the gun here and don't consider this to be a tool review, but I'm picking up a "teak blade" for my Fein Multi tool. I will be removing the deck seams on a cruiser this week. I'll let you guys know how this works. If it doesn't work as advertised I'll go back to the old router method...

Steve, Here's a couple more pictures. I'm still experimenting with props for the boat but like this one. It's a 13square four blade. A friend had it lying around and it seems to work nicely. As far as the engine goes, I accidentally put the wrong one in :D. It's a 283 by Owens. I absolutely love it....

Sorry for the delay in responding Steve. The boat is a 1929 22' Model 2 (aka Cadet). I just finished it last August. I'm the guy who sent you a seat bracket for the cadet you're working on. The basic trailer was just under $5k. After all the bells and whistles it came out to about $6k. I got every p...

There is a company in Portland who makes a great custom trailer for woodies as well. He is very competitive with the other guys and offers a lot of custom features. The company is Ryan Trailers. They have a web site or you can PM me if you want contact info. Here's a couple shots of my new trailer. ...

I got a "screamin" deal on a used Eagle trailer, spent hours cutting, grinding, sanding, painting, replacing brake lines, wire assemblies and rebunking. Not only did I spend hours but I have a few "boat bucks" into the project as well. I did all this about a year ago. My NEW trailer should be ready ...

I have a 1929 22 footer and I believe we have the same size tank. I had Rayco make me a new 33 gal tank out of aluminum. They wouldn't make it out of SS because the welds have a propensity for cracking. I'm not welder and I did not argue with him. If I were to do it again I would probably sacrifice ...

Prop Size
I have a friend with a 30' cruiser powered by two straight sixes. The boat is on the dry dock now for bottom paint and I noticed he has 13X8 props on it. He's a cruising type of guy and I'm wondering if 13X13's or something with a bit more pitch than 8 would be better for him. Do any of you cruiser ...

Velvet Drive ATF
I have a 1960 Owens Flagship with Velvet Drive in my boat. The manual calls for Type "A" automatic transmission fluid. I've tried a couple stores and can't find type "A". Does anyone know what the modern equivalent/replacement for type "A" is? NAPA says to use Dexron.

Electronic Ignition
I have a 1960 Flagship 283 and I put in an MSD "ready to run" electronic ignition and am very happy with it. I think the pertronix conversion is a little more discreet, but I chose to replace the whole thing and I'm glad I did.

Article from About.com power boating
I subscribe to Jim Shepards on line column called about.com powerboating. Here is a story about one mans experience on a big, old Chris Craft.
It is hard to believe this really happens, but I know it does.

shrink Wrapping a Woodie
Hi Buzzers, I thought I'd follow up on my question regarding wrapping a boat for a long haul. I had trouble finding someone in Raleigh who was willing or capable of wrapping the boat, so I decided to wrap it myself. I went to the Home Depot and bought some 6mm plastic, layed it over the boat and the...

Shrink Wrapping a Woodie
Hello Group, I'm going to be relocating from Raleigh out to Portland, Oregon. I will be towing my 1929 22' Chris Craft out there and I'm wondering if anybody has experience shrink wrapping a runabout. Is the heat to shrink the plastic too much for the wood and varnish? Any other suggestions or advic...

Spanish Cedar
I have come across a skid of Spanish Cedar and was wondering if anyone has used this for bottom planking before. I am considering using it to put a 5200 bottom on a 24' runabout or two. 80% of this wood is flat sawn and I'm not sure how it will behave once re-sawn. It is currently 6/4. If anybody ha...

I had my shaft done by Glenwood Marine in California. They were good to work with and had the best price I could find and were fast. You can find them on-line.

Fender/Bumper Debate
Hi Guys, I'm not a language major, but I wonder if the term is application specific. For instance, if you're coming into dock a little too fast or off course, your bumping and need your bumpers. However, if you're tied up and your neighbor is coming in a little too fast, your fending?!! Maybe Chris ...

I have an update on the fuel vent story, and it's not a good one. I opted to stay with the vented dog bone fuel cap and NOT put the hole in the side. When I went to put the first couple gallons of gas in my new fuel tank the fill tube filled up and the gas stayed there. Then....(any guesses??) nearl...

For many years I have used Rustoleum Industrial Latex for bottoms, bilges etc. I'm sure there will be some naysayers, but after 16 years (and counting) I have had no problem. The smoke gray and maroon are good bilge colors and the green and red are good bottom colors. I've never been called on it by...

Fuel Vent
Hello Group, I've been polishing a brass fuel vent that was in pretty bad shape when I got a call from someone. I was asked "Why are you going to put the vent in your 1929 Chris Craft Cadet if it's not original and the fuel cap is vented?" My question to the group is simply, should I drill a hole in...
