Re: engine noise

The sound you describe doesn't say head gasket to me. You mentioned that the engine only has about 100 hours on it since rebuild but it hasn't made the noise until now? Is it a light "tick tick " kind of sound or is it a heavy knocking sound and is it just sound or do you feel it in the frame of the...

I know you mentioned a time interval but I have to ask; does the noise speed up or slow down with engine speed?

Re: 2 1/2" copper exhaust

Hi everyone. This post never goes away and nobody has posted to it in 4 years. In fact this subject dates back to when I was looking for pipe for my SeaSkiff about 5-6 years ago. Am I missing something here? As I read this thread it appears that sourcing copper pipe is something of a problem. Unless...

Re: Lifting rings for 23 Lancer/Commander

You hit the nail on the head Brian, I guess I should have been more specific. I'm looking for the original Chris Craft bracketry. I have a spare set of rings and rod is easy to come by but the brackets I'm sure are unique to certain boats.

Re: Lifting rings for 23 Lancer/Commander

Thanks for the reply Jim,
I don't have any hardware yet. The boat was never equipped with lifting rings I just want to add them. I'm not sure if they were even offered on these boats but I thought I would start asking around.

Lifting rings for 23 Lancer/Commander

Hi all, I'm working on my current project-A 1968 23 Commander and want to add the original lifting eyes/rings.
Is there anyone out there that has a set they would be willing to part with?

I found a couple of sources so far: Max-Gain Systems mgs4u.com 2',4' and 8' lengths up to 2-1/2" O.D. with 1/8" and 1/4" wall thickness. K-Mac Plastics k-mac-plastics.net 5' lengths up to 3" O.D. with 1/4" and 1/2" wall thickness. I can find what I need at either of these sources but I'm still looki...

Re: Balast Resistors in 1931 Model 199

Exactly right John, The only purpose a ballast resistor serves is to reduce the voltage through the contact points. With your Pertronics ignition system they serve no purpose, in fact if they are still connected they may be reducing the voltage to the pertronics system which you don't want. Not sure...

Make sure to loosen the lock nut under the ring and/or above the hull bracket. once the nut/s are loosened the ring/rod will spin right off counterclockwise.

Hi all, As work continues on the 23 Commander I ran into a headscratcher. Troy, You are spot on about the identity issue. That is one thing I remember from earlier days, it feels very impersonal trying to carry on a conversation with a screen name. Waterproof Paint?

Ok guys I'm repairing a couple of dings in the bottom of the 23 Commander and getting ready to paint the whole exterior. I have been down the road you are going. I don't mean to be negative but your choice of paint will come back to haunt you. This should be obvious but don't forget to take into consideration that any forging (hammering) will lengthen the metal which depending on how much work was done to the strut could have changed the length it to the point where it will not line up with original holes.

Hi all. I was at the show last weekend in Clayton. I had to come home a day early with a bad fuel pump. I guess I'm not enough of a purest to convert it back to a Q series, lots of problems getting parts and all. Exhaust manifolds, Risers, Elbows, Adaptors, End Caps

Ok so I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out what manifolds and related parts I need for my 1968 23 Commander. Let's start with it most likely came from the factory with a 327QA but the engine has been changed to an automotive style most likely 327 or 350 according to the casting numbers from ...
