Re: engine noise
The sound you describe doesn't say head gasket to me. You mentioned that the engine only has about 100 hours on it since rebuild but it hasn't made the noise until now? Is it a light "tick tick " kind of sound or is it a heavy knocking sound and is it just sound or do you feel it in the frame of the...

I know you mentioned a time interval but I have to ask; does the noise speed up or slow down with engine speed?

Re: 2 1/2" copper exhaust
Hi everyone. This post never goes away and nobody has posted to it in 4 years. In fact this subject dates back to when I was looking for pipe for my SeaSkiff about 5-6 years ago. Am I missing something here? As I read this thread it appears that sourcing copper pipe is something of a problem. Unless...

Re: Lifting rings for 23 Lancer/Commander
You hit the nail on the head Brian, I guess I should have been more specific. I'm looking for the original Chris Craft bracketry. I have a spare set of rings and rod is easy to come by but the brackets I'm sure are unique to certain boats.

Re: Lifting rings for 23 Lancer/Commander
Thanks for the reply Jim,
I don't have any hardware yet. The boat was never equipped with lifting rings I just want to add them. I'm not sure if they were even offered on these boats but I thought I would start asking around.

Lifting rings for 23 Lancer/Commander
Hi all, I'm working on my current project-A 1968 23 Commander and want to add the original lifting eyes/rings.
Is there anyone out there that has a set they would be willing to part with?

I just measured a spare 1" shaft that I have and that shaft has a 3/4-10 nut.

K-Mac Plastics k-mac-plastics.net 5' lengths up to 3" O.D. with 1/4" and 1/2" wall thickness. I can find what I need at either of these sources but I'm still looki...

Hi John, Congrats on your new toy. I have to agree not just for the sake of agreement, I don't like outboards either but... this is the opinion program right? Re: Balast Resistors in 1931 Model 199
Exactly right John, The only purpose a ballast resistor serves is to reduce the voltage through the contact points. With your Pertronics ignition system they serve no purpose, in fact if they are still connected they may be reducing the voltage to the pertronics system which you don't want. Not sure...

Make sure to loosen the lock nut under the ring and/or above the hull bracket. once the nut/s are loosened the ring/rod will spin right off counterclockwise.

Hi all, As work continues on the 23 Commander I ran into a headscratcher. In preparation to paint the bottom I have been stripping old paint and patching minor scratches and repairing one good sized hole in the keel near the bow. Since all the backing blocks for the through hulls, rudder packing box...

Troy, You are spot on about the identity issue. That is one thing I remember from earlier days, it feels very impersonal trying to carry on a conversation with a screen name. But I have a question about something in one of the replies. What is a varnish based tack cloth? I've never heard of this.

Don I would agree that tig is best and probably better looking too depending on who does it but to answer the question directly, regular old lead solder works just fine.

Hi Guys,
I have a 23 Commander which has the door similar to what you are searching for. I see you haven't gotten any replies so I thought I would offer pictures of my door and if you're lacking any other sources I would build one for you.

Waterproof Paint?
Ok guys I'm repairing a couple of dings in the bottom of the 23 Commander and getting ready to paint the whole exterior. I've been researching paints to refinish the entire boat and I think Awlgrip looks like a good choice but I found out that it is not made for use below the waterline. I contacted ...

As I read the input from others I may have just found a potential source of my troubles with Brightside, it's entirely possible that I applied too many coats to build mil thickness to hide imperfections. I have been down the road you are going. I don't mean to be negative but your choice of paint will come back to haunt you. The first time I painted the SeaSkiff I used a monourethane which gave excellent results in terms of gloss and abrasion resistance but I quickly learned that this product like m...

This should be obvious but don't forget to take into consideration that any forging (hammering) will lengthen the metal which depending on how much work was done to the strut could have changed the length it to the point where it will not line up with original holes.

Fuel pump output pressure
Hi all. I was at the show last weekend in Clayton. I had to come home a day early with a bad fuel pump. I just rebuilt the pump with a kit from Classic Boat Connection and we are up and running again. I checked the pressure and the rebuilt pump is running at 2-3 pounds no change at any engine speed....

I guess I'm not enough of a purest to convert it back to a Q series, lots of problems getting parts and all. If I understand what I've read this is an F series which is a lot like an automotive engine making it very easy to obtain parts. The only stumbling block that I have right now is I purchased ...

Exhaust manifolds, Risers, Elbows, Adaptors, End Caps
Ok so I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out what manifolds and related parts I need for my 1968 23 Commander. Let's start with it most likely came from the factory with a 327QA but the engine has been changed to an automotive style most likely 327 or 350 according to the casting numbers from ...
