I just saw your picture you're missing the retainer that holds and the check valve

Re: 1958 CC - KFL Engine - Electric Fuel Pump
Some fuel pumps don't have a retainer to keep the check valves in and they rely on a pressed fit. There are a few tricks to properly install these that I would be happy to share with you. The mechanical pump can in fact be very reliable and safe if serviced properly Please feel free to give a call o...

Re: 1942 K Motor plugs rapidly fouling
There are several possibilities that I would take a look at. First make sure that your choke is wide-open don't rely on the position of the knob on the dash. Take the flame arrester off and look at the position of the butterfly. The early model K had an adjustable high-speed jet. I If you have one I...

Re: KFL Generator removal
Hi Jim
Not a good idea to open the ID. There needs to be a tight fit to keep the pulley from wobbling. Just clean the shaft and pulley and use a bit of never Seez on the shaft when you put it back on.

Re: Water Pump uh oh...
The pump in question is not an impeller pump it is a gear pump. To do it properly requires quite a bit of machining It also requires three bronze bushings two custom-made gears a ball bearing a mechanical seal and possibly two shafts to finish the job it also requires assorted gaskets and stainless ...

Re: prop direction wall of confusion
Hi If you push the lever forward on the transmission it should be in forward gear. Look at the shaft and see if it's rotation is clockwise If it is you simply need a RH prop. If you listen to the trans it will be noisier in reverse because of the planetary gear whine ... you cant miss it Try shiftin...

Re: Paragon rebuild question
The HJA or HJAD Direct Drive was used on the 430 Lincoln engine. It had very few applications elsewhere. It is significantly more complicated than the HF7 or the P Series Gears from Paragon. Even if the rebuilder had the parts on the shelf, he could still spend 2 full days from start to finish to pr...

Re: No Start After Lunch on Chesapeake
Hi I think the needle may have stuck in the seat in the carb. This can happen from a jolt from a wave jamming the needle into the seat or from some dirt holding the needle from moving freely. Either one can resolve itself. I don't think it is vapor lock as the fuel bowl is well vented. If it occurs ...

Re: Gray Marine Model 70 Plumbing
Hi There are two types of cooling systems on the model 70 The most common one is the earlier engine where he water pump is mounted on the oil cooler and driver by the generator. The outlet from the pump goes to the front of the oil cooler with a short hose. The aft end of the cooler goes to the bott...

Ken, I need to defend myself here. Something I rarely do. #1. I spent hours with you on the phone explaining how the CC 283 cooling system worked. When you told me you were using Felpro gaskets, I saved you much grief by explaining why they would not work. #2. You told me you were going to replace t...

We will often put boots on engines for safety reasons after explaining t...

Hi There were at least two types of thermostats used, Both require a recirculation T at the boats water inlet. One style uses a separate bypass valve and the other is a dual action type. Both have availability but sorry to say they are not inexpensive. If you try and use a single action unit you wil...

Hello Gord I need to jump in here. I need to state that we were not the one who sold the poor gasket set. We are in the area mentioned and have a "s" in our name. We do however have new gasket sets for Chrysler Crown and Ace engines. In all fairness to a Chrysler gasket supplier, there were many chan...

Hi you need to check the voltage output of the generator while running with a fully charged battery. Of course you need a 12 volt coil. Many people that "Convert" a 6 volt generator to 12 volt only adjust the third brush to cut down the current. If this approach is taken the generator voltage will w...

Hi I confess I did not read all the posts so this may have been covered. The thermostat system in your engine is a bypassing type. If you take the thermostat out the engine will overheat. It needs the top portion of the stat to shut off the bypass flow after the engine warms up. There is a correct r...

Hi There were some 283's that had a dual Holley thermostat set up. They worked quite well, but the replacement element is expensive. There is another after market unit that you install between the forward end of the head and the block. This also works quite well but requires a bit of modification. D...
