It seems to me to be a muddled manner of finishing. Statuatory bronze plating, from what I read, is a chemical not plated finish.

A matter of personal taste if used with the stainless washers. However, once washers are used they do recess/cut into the wood due to tightening and the general flexing of a wood boat.Denis D wrote:Shouldn't they be chromed?

This is a new restoration.....cracks are not acceptable. I doubt that this was a restoration, he states it was redone a year or two. WHat is a redo vs a restore? I doubt that a restorer would make the modifications or use an automotive finish, and was it purchased from a prior owner or a restorer? ...

Cyanoacrylate, the main chemical in superglue will penetrate into the fibers of surrounding wood. IMHO I would not think that one can stain that well over it.
