If you decide to use MEK, please do so with great care. It is a carcinogen and generally just not good to be around. It soaks into the skin, is bad to inhale and extremely flammable. I have had moderate success with a product called Soy Strip form the Franmar company. It is very safe to work with an...

Hi Razz,

Thanks for the response, but I bought a mostly original looking flame arrestor months ago. There is a picture of my engine floating around somewhere in the glass section of the Buzz.

I have limited experience with these matters, but I believe you want a little water seeping in. This keeps the shaft and packing lubricated and thus not burning up.

I cannot vouch for either one, but try West Marine or Defender. That's all the info that was given to me regarding the same rail. I never did the search to replace mine, decided I could live with the old for a while.

Peter recently asked if I had more recent photos of my project. I've only been able to get the boat in the water once and then without the windshield and engine hatch. Here's a few of the latest pics. Patrick http://www.postimage.org/gx2tHoaA.jpg http://www.postimage.org/aV2ch05S.jpg http://www.post...

Try uShip.com

If you can be patient, I'm trying to work a deal in the Ft. Worth area and would need transport from there to Louisville, KY.

I'm guessing this would be 3-4 weeks at least, but who knows. Feel free to e-mail me.

Prop steer

I realize this may sound a little crazy, but I believe an issue like this was addressed before here on the Buzz. I took my newly refurbished XK19 out for the first time on Sunday. All went well except for a steering issue. When going from a standstill to full throttle the boat jerked to port and did...

Hi Oldshore, Is it a Chris Craft specific part? I don't know, but it is bolted to a Chevy 350. Of course it's just used an extension to the engine bellhousing. I replaced the bearings and seals last week, two of each with snap rings (circle clips) to hold the bearings in place. After installing the ...

Hi Scalrik, Good luck with your project. I am a tightwad, but try not to skimp on anything when it comes to the boat, within limits. I think you would be very pleased if you stick with the marine products. I'm sure they are all of qulaity, and I've had good luck with Pettit, Interlux, Epifanes and p...

I find this interesting because my 71 XK19 did not come with a speedo, no one knows why. I find it funny that CC would skimp on such items. My boat also is very original and with a little luck will be going in the water for the first time since I started tearing her apart six months ago. Yes, I have...

Propeller selection

I need to get a new prop for my 1971 XK19 which will be making its debut soon. One owner with a boat almost exactly like mine says he use a 15x17. The props I got with the boat (no longer useable) appear to be 14x21 according to the guy at the prop shop. They have been re-worked too many times to te...

Not sure what you are referring to with the oil filler cap. It is a new part from Year One nad is beside the oil dipstick. No problems accessing it. Actually the previous owner had it on the wrong side and it had to be wrestled from underneath the copper tube.

Hi Razz, thanks for the compliment on the engine. I've been working hard on it. We ran her for the first time on Tuesday and she purred like a kitten. It was great, it fired right up. For you folks with sawdust in your veins, I have a question. There is a new Kid Rock video called "All Summer Long" that can be seen on You Tube. Regarding the Indiana Jones movie, I'm pretty sure the "boat" that was smashed between the two ships was digitally generated. The one that got chopped up by the ship propeller was not real. I am in the process of pulling the engine from my 1971 XK 19. It has a Volvo Penta 250 with a 350 Chevy.
