Re: Zenith 263 m carb
Solved my idling problem. I had adjusted the idle screw after engine ran for awhile, but before any load was put on motor. 1 turn out gave a nice smooth idle. Took her out today. After running for an hour or so on Lake Huron ( Gorgeous day), she would idle rough and would die when put in gear. Opene...

Zenith 263 m carb
Have idling problem on my '56 KL with a Zenith 263M carb. When motor is cold, she idles fine. Run on the lake for an hour or so, and she won't idle under 1500 rpm. The motor runs very cool, barely gets to 100 degrees. I've rebuilt the carb with no improvement. Get her home, start up and runs fine ne...

Staining
1st time staining. Used Interlux Chris Craft Filler stain. Followed directions: thin with Interlux 333 to thick house paint consistency. Let sit for ten minutes then wiped off. Let sit for a day and decided stain was too thick and I wanted more grain to show. Sanding was too agressive and spotty. Be...

paint stripper or sanding
In process of refinishing varnish/stain on mahogany hull. Can I use paint stripper then sand? Concerned the stripper might soak into wood and adversely affect the stain process.

18' Continental that is trailered and used regularly. Have problem with bottom paint scuffing on launch and recovery. Have indoor/outdoor carpet (LOWES). Would it be better to use "marine grade" carpet or plastic covers?

Trailered hull bottom paint
My '56 Continental is trailered and used regularly. Are there any paint that will resist paint scuffing from loading/unloading?
I used Indoor/outdoor carpet from LOWES on the bunks. Should I use "marine grade" carpet available through marine supply stores to reduce scuffing? Thanks

KL Generator overcharging
Have KL motor in my 1956 Continental. It is charging into the 15 volt range. The battery has liquid on the top, which I guess is a result of overcharging. Had motor out for rebuild. The generator has a box on the side with 2 wires connected. Is that the voltage regulator? Something I should do to re...

Re: 5200 paint
The bottom appears that it might be original. Most planks were tight; some had 1/16 to 1/8" gap. Used dremel sparingly. Didn't push 5200 into seams, so I'm not too worried about expanding planks buckeling. The boat is trailered , so don't have luxury of soak. As hull has plywood inner liner, just wa...

Re: 5200 paint
I get the impression that there is disagreement with the 5200 idea. Here's what I did. Actually, I took a Dremel with cone shaped bit and took out about 1/8" to 1/4" deep surface valley between planks. Filled "valley" with 5200. Didn't force it, just let ut flow as you would do with caulking. Wiped ...

'56 Continental 18'. Replacing (2) 2 foot sections of bottom side by side plank. The hull uses 1/2" plank over plywood liner. The plywood is good. Do I need to treat the new wood before installation?
