Check with Marty, but for some reason, I thought Lungos were just Super Aquaramas with small blocks instead of big blocks.

Also, there is a new Riva message board.

I just looked at this - there is a fairly decent photo (B&W) of the linoleum flooring in a Continental (which is similar to that used in later Capri's).

I'd really like to find a catalog for 1957.

Very cool indeed. I'd be very interested in seeing any Capri shots. Any chance you can scan Amy of it? I bought a color ad for the '57 lineup that shows the interior colors, albeit small.

Capri Garboard Drain Location

As I am in still in construction mode, I would like to at least drill the hole for my garboard drain plug so I can hose the boat out at some point. Problem is I have no seat/floor pieces and would like to know where to drill so it is properly accessible when complete. On '55-58 Capris, is the plug u...

Short of finding another project boat with the windshield, I can pretty much guarantee the only place you will find one is here. I have been tracking Capri windshield parts for going on 3 years now and have NEVER seen a continental windshield for sale. http://www.californiaclassicboats.com/chris1.htm

From what I have gathered the gauges changed somewhere during the 1957 model year. My hull number is 545 and I have the same dash configuration as Pete. From what else I have seen, the windshields changed during the '58 model run. Some '58s have the traditional raked Capri/Cobra windshield. Didn't t...

I'd have to dig around, but I'm fairly certain this is the service I used. USDA will test wood samples for you for free, you mail them a little piece, they reply by mail. I did it with two different pieces from my Capri (both were determined to be Red Meranti). It looks like they changed the website...

Thanks Bob. Is the gap you refer to between the actual deck planks or the frames below?

The drawings I got from the MM denote an extra gap between the frames on the staboard side, noting that the deck on the starboard hangs over to cover the extra gap.

Thanks again.

Capri Engine Hatch Dimension Question

Hoping my fellow Capri ('55-'58 ) owners can shed some light regarding the size of the gap between hatch frames and adjacent deck carlings. I had to replace everythin due to rot and have the original hatch that is relatively in tact. As I understand, there is more gap on the starboard side to make r...

Very cool you have those panels. My boat (545)has a post coming down from the deck to the bilge, that I assume meets the top of the kick panel.

I assume that's where your panels go. My post is covered with black alligator, which I assume means my panels were black alligator as well.

I agree that the ceiling boards appear darker - I imagine most ended up getting bleached like the decks.

Knotty48 - by chance what hull number is your '57? What color interior?

Don, we've talked about that swatch before, it looks like it says "Mist Green" and the 57's I've seeen with with green look darker, almost like a forest green.

Some '57's, including mine, were offered with Mint Green upholstery. No one has a definitive sample of Mint Green. My '57 also came with Decoray Linoleum, which no one has a sample of. I think most people go with white or black flooring because that is what is available today. There was an feature o...

Hi Mark, I am in Sacramento as well, restoring a '57 Capri. I know of a few boats in the area that would be great first boat material. Offhand, I know of a "done" 1961 17' Ski Boat. There is also a 55-56 20' Continental that is very very close to being done. Though you said you didn't want a project...

Mark,

The 283 transmission shares oil with the motor sump via a hole in the end of the crankshaft. You don't fill it.

When changing oil, you can remove the plate on the top of the trans and remove out the residual oil that doesn't get sucked out via the dipstick for the oil pan.

Capri Seatback Supports

I'm posting this for a fellow Capri owner. He wants to know what is behind the ceiling panel that the front seatback supports attach to. I assume it is a block of wood or something to anchor the screws - but does it attach to anything or just float? He's hoping not to have to remove his ceiling pane...

Are these from Napa the same or similar to the ones Chris Craft used in the 50's, i.e. the Capri?

You might note in the latest issue the 21' Capri has the full data base published. They made a lot more of the 19' version but it would be interesting. Cerulean Blue is listed for a couple 21-footers. Would be worth tracking down those owners if possible to make sure you have the right shade. What ...
