Lake Geneva 2013
Who all is going to be there? I will be there with my 24' Sportsman and a project hydroplane. Does anyone know I'd there are power hookups at the Abby docks?

Re: Wrong Carb for Marine Use?
well it sounds like my carb isn't so hot. I found what I think to be a decent replacement:

Wrong Carb for Marine Use?
Right now I have an Indmar 454 on my 24' Sportsman. The carb on it is a holley 12r 554B. The problems I've been having lately is that it will start fine, and once I run it at about 2500 RPM's for 10 minutes or so I get power loss, then the engine pops and picks up speed again. Some days I can go for...

Help ID'ing a hydro
It's not a Chris, but I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Pulled this out of the woods today. I believe it to be a 40's hydro. Not sure if it's scratch built, from plans, or a kit. Anybody recognize it? It's got a 4 cylinder jeep willy's engine and a forward rumble seat. Full...

Re: Alternator Wiring or Failure?
There is an internal regulator, which is why I'm perplexed. If it's internally regulated then why do I have to have all these other wires running to it?
Here are some more pictures of the back of it. When I bought the boat it only had 2 wires going to it. The spade plug and the positive wire.

Re: Alternator Wiring or Failure?
That's what makes me think mine is not a one wire. I do in fact have two wires connected. One to a "p" an that reads 12v at all times. Then I have a "bat" wire hooked up that also reads 12v at all times.

Re: Alternator Wiring or Failure?
Ok still no luck. I sprung for a new alternator. I think it's just a one wire alt though. I cannot for the life of me find a wiring diagram for this alternator. Does anyone have anything that could help? I bought the same model I had. When I pull the positive battery terminal the engine dies.... Hel...

Alternator Wiring or Failure?
I have a Delco 19020608 on my Indmar engine. I am not getting any output from the alternator and it looks brand new. I know some alternators need to be wired such that they get "told" to turn on. I'm thinking that it was wired wrong from the beginning. The back of my alternator looks like this. The ...

Re: Starting 454
The pump was a carter p4389. I replaced it and she runs! Well at least for 30 minutes. Then she blew a main fuse and I got stuck in the bay. The local fishing charter dragged me home. Anyways I think the carb needs to be tuned up and I need to chase this electrical problem. I'll post pics soon!

Re: Starting 454
The ground is solid for sure. Checked the voltage across the wires. Arg. I'll have to find a new pump then.

Re: Starting 454
Ok I hooked up a positive line directly from the battery to the pump while the engine was off and I didn't hear anything. Would I be able to hear the pump in this situation? If so then I think I might have a bad fuel pump. Unless there is a way to trouble shoot it as it sits?

Re: Starting 454
Anybody have a good recommendation for the type of oil for this engine? The oil right now is really clear. I'm sure it was winterized and oil was changed then.

Re: Starting 454
I'm being careful. I'm using carb start not gas. Tank is grounded and blower is always on. Next test is voltage to pump while key is on. Then when key is in start position.

Re: Starting 454
She definitely fires up when I shoot carb start into the engine. I cranked tonight for 20 seconds straight and still nothing. Going to check voltage at the pump next. At this point I'm assuming it is the culprit.

Re: Starting 454
I considered jumping a positive line from the battery to the fuel pump to see if it works that way. Then I can work backwards. Not sure if that's ok or not.

Re: Starting 454
Fuel shutoff is on. I don't hear the pump when the key is on, but I was told that only goes on when the key is in the start position. When the flame arrester is off, I can see the choke flapping the whatchamacallit as I'm changing throttle positions and so forth. I tried using the manual prime lever...

Re: Starting 454
You guys are totally right. I should have posted pictures. I'm still working on the problem. There is definitely no fuel getting to the engine... Here is the pump and what I believe to be the automatic choke. It's an Indmar 454 Marine Engine.

Starting 454
I just picked up a 24' Sportsman with a 454. I was going to try and get it started up for the first time and I noticed there is an electric fuel pump right before the carb. I also noticed what looks like an electric choke. I've never worked with these newer engines. What's the startup procedure? Wil...

Re: Ever find your sister boat?
Jerry turney (razzmatazz) and I had sister boats. They were 1942 17' barrelbacks. I believe he still has his. Beautiful boat. I sold mine to a gentleman in Texas. I've been in contact to follow the restoration. My hull number was 71924 and Jerry's was 71923 I believe. I love these stories.

Well I did some homework, and it turns out there was a 24' twin sportsman in the 2005 BSLOL show. Here is the video from my archives. Not sure who the owner is. From my recollection he is a well known varnisher/restorer from up in those parts (Minnesota). Beautiful boat though. http://www.youtube.co...

Twin Engine Sportsman??
I recently purchased a 1961 24' Sportsman with a 454 engine in it. I was looking at the Chris Craft bible, and it appears as though that boat had the option of twin engines. Does anyone have any pictures of such a boat? Hull #CUA-24-0007C here are pictures of my new one: http://s17.postimage.org/lgp...
