Dave, I am just going to throw this out there. I am not far from you to the south in mass and I was able to find a sawmill in Connecticut with white oak and experience cutting keels for large boats. I was told that my runabout keel was cut from scraps for a larger boat. If interested I can get you t...

I have and it worked just as well. I used two different lengths for shorter fore planks and longer aft planks.

Have your clamps and wet towels ready to get the planks in place fast and stop them from drying out too fast.

Not a Capri but similar vintage - 53 Rocket Runabout. Original wiring for the three gauges that it came with.

If you can go to a local metal recycler or sand and gravel that has a drive on scale and weigh the boat on the trailer and then either subtract what you think the trailer weighs or remove the boat and then weigh just the trailer.

I did this with mine when I first brought her home.

Gary, Mine is 20' x 10' x 8'. It is the round style and provides adequate space to work on my 17' runabout. Obviously bigger would be better but based on my circumstances I can't complain. It was purchased from MDM Products LLC in Milford Ct. (www.mdmshelters.com). I can't help you on price at that ...

I have a rhino shelter. It has been up for two years and is holding up great. For the floor I used recycled ashpalt which was very cheap and still allows moisture to vent through and keep the wood safe. As far as heat goes I rigged up a simple box fan hanging near the roof and plugged it into a ther...

The company is Convenient Graphics. Here is the link to their web site: http://www.convgraphics.com/ I have not used them but I have good recommendations from my friends with large fiberglass boats. Price all depends on size and options (e.g. gold) but the feedback is that they are reasonable. Mark

I need to know if there is a custom trailer source in the Northeast that has experience with wooden runabouts.

I've never heard anyone describe a 5200 bottom as" forever". I have 30 years if done properly.

Maybe your idle is set too low and too much fuel goes in when you try to accelerate.

George, I did some additional research and there is a standard called UNEF - for extra fine threads. If you scroll down on this site there is a chart: http://mdmetric.com/tech/thddat9.htm Even with this knowledge there doesn not appear to be anything readily available in 1 1/8-18 TPI out there. The thread size is an issue. I have scoured the internet and no one has 18 or 19 TPI bolts, screws or threaded rod.
Any help would be appreciated.

Drag Link Plug

After quite a struggle I was able to remove the drag link plug and get the pitman arm and components removed. I did however maul the plug pretty badly and need to replace it. It is 1 1/8 inches in diameter and 3/4 inches long. Does anyone know where I can find this? Also, there is a threaded hole in...

Rocket Owner

I am currently restoring a 1953 Rocket. Based on the limited production they are quite rare. I cannot help with a restorer since I am doing the work myself. I am not sure of the condition but preservation (re-use of at least 65% of the original wood) seems to be held in high regard - and is what I a...
