Beautiful boat! As some of us are gear-heads, how about some pictures of the engine when you have a chance?
Thanks.

Re: compression spring left in sediment bowl
There may have been a filter in the sediment bowl and the spring would hold it tight against the top of the filter housing. It looks like a nice previous owner took out the filter and left the spring for future use. The NAPA number for the filter has been posted previously on Boat Buzz. I believe it...

Re: Canvas Curtain for handrails
There were eylets screwed into the holes in handrail and top side of the bottom hull frame. Then the weather cloths were laced with cording as Greg indicated through the grommets in the cloth and the eyelets. I had this same set up on a 1949 27 foot cruiser. If you enlarge your photograph you can se...

Matt, I haven't had any trouble but thanks for the extremely quick response to member comments and problems. Great job.
FYI: I use Google Chrome as my main browser and IE 8 as an occasional back up. I have never had problems with the drop downs with either browser.

Re: Barn(yard) Find
It looks like the engine stringers are still intact. On single engine boats I believe Chris Craft stamped the hull identification number on the starboard stringer behind the rear engine mount. Here is what mine looks like so you have an idea what it might look like: 1959 Chris Craft Sea Skiff Hull N...

This is appropriate. Try it. It may take a few applications to completely fill the hole but it should work.Peter M Jardine wrote:For the most part, a little thickened epoxy is fine. That is, if it is indeed a small hole.

Savannah, take a look at this thread:

Also, do a search for 283 water pump and you'll find lots of information about these water pumps and how to remove and rebuild them.

Re: Battery replacement
Do you have a deep cycle marine battery or an automotive battery? When you store it do you keep it hooked up to a float charger? Has your mechanic tried to charge the battery, and if not, why does he conclude that it won't take a charge?

Re: Carburetor Flame Arrestor Gasket
Great idea, CQ. It is an hard rubber large to small adapter. I'll check those places and some others.
I wonder what others with the Rochester 4G carburetor use for a flame arrestor?

Carburetor Flame Arrestor Gasket
My Sea Skiff has a 283 engine with a Rochester 4GC four barrel carburetor. The hard rubber gasket that sits on the carburetor flange between the carburetor air intake and the flame arrestor has cracked and broken. See picture #2. I need a replacement or a flame arrestor with a 4.25" base to mount on...

My Sea Skiff has a throttle cable which works great. Very smooth. Much different animal with its 283 V-8. It does accelerate!

Re: 1948 cruiser, throttle way too sticky
Doug, the old cruisers had about 20 pounds of brass rods with numerous 90 degree turning points that have to be checked periodically and cleaned and lubricated. The butterfly valve shaft where it goes through the carburetor housing also would stick causing smooth 'acceleration" problem. (My big old ...

Re: 1948 cruiser, throttle way too sticky
Bobby, if your linkage is like the one on my 1949 cruiser it is all connected by brass rods, not a cable. It isn't complicated, and I am assuming that it did work properly before. I would start by disconnecting the linkage at the carburetor. Then move the butterfly valve on the carburetor to be sure...

Re: state registration versus USCG documentation
Time to either register or document my 32' Connie--pros or cons either way?!? In South Carolina, registration is $30/yr, and ya hafta put those ugly numbers and stickers on the sides--USCG documentation is $133 one time, no fee for yearly renewal, and official number is stenciled INSIDE the hull. I...
