Here you go....here's a 1940 100HP truck engine. Great running motor and perfect for this boat. Pictured in the boat is our own Bill Baldwin, editor extraordinaire....

I would be surprised, and interested to know, if the mahogany on your boat is in fact Phillipine or is Honduras, as I would presume it is. I have two 1947 painted hull CC's in the shop right now and they're cedar hulls with Hondo decks and transom. Someone replaced the transom on the U-22 with Phill...

John Freeman will be delivering a Gar Wood to Portland in the next few weeks from NY. I'm not sure what his plans are for getting back East but I'd start there.

Chad,
I heard on the radio the other day that the Mexican drug lords are using a t-shirt cannon to blast cans of marijuana over the border. Maybe you can do the same to get the Bell up to Canada? Anything to help our brothers to the North!

I did just that on my 22' CC 7 or 8 years ago and have had no problem. I didn't put the copper tubing in but I drilled out all the limber holes so they were uniform in size. They still require a push with a piece of wire once in a while but generally work well when there are no leaves or other debri...

We usually chalk the whole boat and then start sanding with a longboard, again. High spots sand off quickly leaving the chalked low spots very visible. Just when you think you've got it perfect, do it again. Trust me, two more days of sanding beats 5 years or more of looking at an unfair hull or one...

I'd say John is right, too. CC doesn't put ceiling boards in the engine compartment. Yours has boards from its original configuration. There must be numbers stamped somewhere. Have you removed the rear seat back? That model should have a number stamped in the frame that goes across. Also in some flo...

Tim, You shouldn't have to steam those planks. I use a long ratcheting strap, or strap/rope combo to go all around the boat and the new rough fit plank. Once it's reasonably close I start tightening the strap and adjusting the board. I also screw a couple keepers to the cheeks so I can get the strap...

I don't recommend bedding anything in 5200 as it's a permanent adhesive and not a bedding compound. I use Dolphonite Bedding Compound, the old school stuff because it works and it's nostalgic, for me. Boatlife or any other "non-permanent" polyurethanes are also acceptable. Remember, the bolts are ho...

Thanks Matt. As always, you're the first to step forward with interesting and accurate information that most people probably don't know. Waterline Estimate

Can anybody out there with a '37-'38 17' Deluxe approximate the waterline from the chine up AFT and the deck down FWD? I have a boat with no trace of a waterline on its new sides. I just want to get close so I can CPES, barrier coat and paint the bottom. I will float it for the final WL once the boa...

Usually the prop shaft leaks while underway and perhaps not at rest. The rudder would probably leak all the time if it was bad....perhaps not while under way. EIther way, I'd repack the rudder stuffing box and take a good look at the shaft stuffing box. The nipple, or whatever, was probably just use...

If you have to re-tap it to clean up or enlarge the opening be sure to put some heavy grease on the tap first. The grease will hold all of the shavings and prevent them from falling inside the engine.
