Re: Replacement Fuel Tank
usually the ethanol free gas comes only in the higher octane ratings. As i understand it, the higher octane just means that the gas all explodes at the same time. I am not aware that this creates any problems?

Judge1948, thanks for the pictures and the story. Another good place that would be interested in a posting is the ACBS website if you are an acbs member. (If not, please consider joining.). Maybe you are familiar with their site? but in any event they feature member boats every tuesday. Also you hav...

Re: Best way to secure transome to trailer?
thanks. this works if the hook at the end of the winch strap will pass thru the ring. mine is too large, so this strap idea would work great.
thx. for the pic.

Re: Best way to secure transome to trailer?
yes, something like that would be great. currently i have to fold my winch strap in half as I wrap it around the lifting ring so it stays under the "wing" associated with the ring. a nuisance. for those with post war round rings, i would think there would be a problem using this strategy since the s...

Re: Best way to secure transome to trailer?
Well, this post raises an issue discussed here a few years ago about trailer pulling. Many suggested they were pulling their trailers at 70-75 mph. By going slower, one provides a much greater margin for maneuver, to avoid the slamming of brakes or swerving, two of the major causes of boat shifting ...

Re: Best way to secure transome to trailer?
There are a number of ways to make sure the boat is secure but only a limited number of ways that dont involve potential damage to the finish or other elements of the boat. your picture indicates possible rubbing of the finish on the transom via the strap. a no no. the strut is bolted thru the keel,...

Re: Best way to secure transome to trailer?
08 tahoe pictures, etc 015-001.jpg Mark is correct. In that regard you should attach your back straps to the sides of the trailer as far back from the strut as possible, forming a "V". When tightened this will prevent the trailer from sliding forward and damaging the bow. It is best to make sure no...

Re: 1937 Chris Craft 19' Custom Runabout Bottom Woes
I believe both the 35 and 36 19' runabouts had the 4 spoke plastic wheel. generally, i think the '37 wheel was the banjo.Perhaps there was a switch to it sometime during the model run in'37? If this were the case, then perhaps your grandparents later switched out the 4 for the banjo? That may be why...

Re: 1937 Chris Craft 19' Custom Runabout Bottom Woes
there is an extensive discussion here about epoxy vs. 5200 bottom. Dont be too hasty about a 5200 bottom without reading that discussion. imho epoxy has the best of the argument. As for the steering wheel, i cant tell by the pictures what you have , but i believe the correct wheel for the '37s was t...

Re: Fakebook hurting Boat Buzz?
troy, there was formerly a feature on boat buzz that alerted one to all of the postings when made, not just specific sites that one had posted on. I think that fell by the wayside in the course of migrating the site away from the previous system. Actually, there werent all that many so it was not ov...

Re: windshiels for my 39 BB
No one seems to have replied to this yet. My understanding is the correct glass for this is the same as pre war auto laminated safety glass. If so, i think you could probably get some thru a reputable old car restoration company in your area that has a connection to an appropriate glass supplier.

Re: previous owner search for documented boat?
gosh, i dont know, when i checked they had a number of districts around the country. so i would start with the district where you think the boat might have been registered to see. Who knows, there may be different policies in different districts? good luck.

Re: previous owner search for documented boat?
I tried in the early 80's to do that here in seattle and they had thrown away all the old paper records a few years before that, so there was no way to trace pre-war boat numbers in this district, at least. but no harm asking.

Re: Gas tank restorayion
I would say amen to that. the ensign tank must be like 1947? or so. God knows that after the war they used anything they could get their hands on to make boats after early postwartime shortages of metals, etc. Why risk it?

Re: 1/2 round and stuffing
In the minor detail department, the half round in the front has seams on each side more or less where the crash pad turns the corner from the sides to the front. Contra-intuitively, the upholstery fabric from the sides overlaps that from the front at that point, rather than the other way around. The...
