Whats with the little hole on top of a Zenith Carb.

As I am putting the final parts on a Chris Craft MB engine I come to the carburetor installation and the same question arises ever time. What is the little hole and sometimes holes for on the top of the carburetor where the gasket sits between the intake manifold and the carburetor? It looks like a ...

I ordered 4 tanks from Rayco and was very pleased with them; they put the detail at the ends of the tanks as best they could. I had one original out of the 1929 and then made a drawing for them to go by; I think this is what you mean. Rayco, as you guys know builds them using aluminum, I don’t think...

Thanks Bill for the better explanation, you have it correct. I use the 3M fine line tape over and over again until it does not stick very well; I tape on both sides and tear a small piece of tape for both ends. It is easy to get a good straight line if you press one end of the fine line tape down an...

I have done it all three ways and even had a professional sign painter do it, he was not very straight. I use pin striping tape and lay down a nice straight line, (3M makes the thin stuff) then tape on both side of the pinstripe and go on to the next one. Start on the outside and tape to the middle ...

What is interesting is that the paint was like a flame red not a bilge red on all of the scoops that I have seen. Is this what most of you have seen to? Steve, most of the holes in the deck have either had downspouts in them or they were painted bilge color if the underside of the deck was painted, ...

I just got the chrome back for the 1948 20’ Custom and it looks incredible. The question is do I paint the deck scoops red on the underside or not. I have seen it both ways, I am pretty sure this was the original chrome on the boat and they were painted red. Anyone out there know for sure, or is the...

I have had my fare share of washing teak decks and that may be why my back hurts from time to time. I have tried a few different ways and always went back to a product called Teka A & B, this stuff is a two part that really lifts the dirt out, you have to be careful and scrub lightly, it will soften...

Insulated Staples

I have been on the search for some insulated staples for one of the boats that I am restoring and finally found the supplier. The company is called W.W. Cross at: 2510 Allen Avenue, SE Canton, OH 44707 Phone: (330) 588-8400 The nice lady on the phone informed me that they have #3, #5, #6 in copper a...

Al, I just got done reading the thread you suggested and now remember that great discussion we had. I didn’t think it covered the fumes in the bilge and should have known with the talent out there that it was very well explained. Maybe the fumes are getting to me, or it could be age.

I feel it is one of the most important practices we can have and I know my family has been doing it for years. I read the same article this morning Al and I agree. It seems to me that they really don’t know the benefits and what the product is really used for. Another good test would have been to measure the time up until it actually failed, using the 2 samples that Bill suggested.

I let my stain set for a week; in my opinion the CPES is just too hot almost like acetone or a lacquer thinner, I guess I just don’t understand the benefit to it. To me it seems like you would have a problem with the varnish not adhering to the wood or moisture damage over time if you used it or not...

Used CPES a couple times over stain and will never do that again! If you do my suggestion is to spray it and you better wear protective gear. Don’t feel it’s necessary as I have a lot confidence in the sealer and varnish I use.

Here is a rolling cradle that I have been using for many years; I think I am up to 6 of them now. This will hold your boat during restoration upside down and the right side up.
