Re: Hull card mystery

My hull # 2096 was shipped in July 1928, a friend has the sister boat hull #2114, his was sipped in April 1928. I've been told that CC would build the boats (all winter back then) and place them in storage. When an order was received they would ship from the front of the storage facility to the back.

Filler neck gasket

New aluminum tank, brass filler neck with jam nut. What in the recommended method for sealing this joint? The orig. looked like two (dry) gaskets under the jam nut. The jam nut has a bevel to "hold" the gaskets tight to the filler neck.

The head bolts that are in the 4 corners of each head (if my memory is right) pass into the water jacket. I had a very difficult time removing them. Broke one off in the block. Just an FYI.

Re: Flipping a 19' Capri hull

Using a single point at the top is dangerous, the boat gets just past vertical and it falls very quickly. Using two points at the top the slings stay in contact with the hull through the rotation.

I run Valvoline VR 1 30 weight Racing oil (NAPA) in my 1989 351 ford and my 1928 Chrysler. The newer oils don't have the ZDDP that the older engines need.

Re: Oil for 1947 U-22?

Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil 30w Get it at NAPA. Contains High amounts of Zinc. Of the shelf oil does not have the ZDDP. The older engines need it. The oil Co. took it out because it was plugging the catalytic converters. Don't buy any oil with out it.

#1 I would make sure the throttle is opening fully. Have someone drive while you work the disconnected carb linkage.
#2 Check the spark advance weights and springs in the distributor.
#3 Is there a high speed jet on you carb?

Re: CHRYSLER ROYAL ENGINE stalling more frequently

Having a vacuum tank and not a mechanical or electrical fuel pump makes this more of a challenge. I would mount (safely) a small fuel tank close to you vacuum tank. Eliminate the water/fuel separator and the large tank. My guess is that the Vacuum tank can't pull the fuel that far plus through the f...

Re: external to internal resisted coil

Don't discount the "old ways". My daily (summertime) driver is a 1989 Ski Supreme 351 inboard. It has points and a ballast resister. If my points fail I can always file them to get back to the dock. If the resister fails I can bypass it. If your electronic ignition fails you are stuck big time. The ...

Re: cutting the batten notch angles - eyeball it?

I used a small fine tooth back saw with two pieces of wood bolted to the blade parallel to the teeth. The blocks were set back from the teeth the thickness of the batten. When you saw at your lines the depth is automatic, also the angle is copied of off the face of the frame. Multiple cuts 1/16 apar...

12 volt system, new sender, Move the sender gauge moves correctly. Turn the key off and the gauge does not drop to past "E".
No power to the gauge with the key off. All the boats I've know of the gauge drops with the key off. Let me know what you think.

drrot,
Heat the copper with oxy/acet until you see the copper change colors (blue ect), you will have to go over the whole tube. Ether quench or air cool, bend within one hour of being cool to the touch.
