Paragon 1XE transmission repair
While rebuilding my 2 K engines I decided to take apart and inspect the tranny on 1 engine (this engine obviously ran low/out of oil, spun rod bearing, evidences of low/no oil in the tranny) I’m trying to disassemble the gear case to inspect the plates but the top collar only turns an inch either wa...

Some keel issues
Just about done the rebuild of my 2 K engines (will share pics soon). Inspected the hull and found the keel needs some work.
Besides scraping/sanding/primer/cotton (if wider than .25in), what should I use to replace what previous owner used?
Thanks in advance for any input

‘57 CC Sedan bow decking
Hope This is the correct forum
Being a glutton for punishment, I am considering removing some sort of white painted laminate on my bow deck. I like the look of stained and varnished wood planking. just not sure what’s underneath this laminate.
any thoughts or experience would be greatly appreciated

Re: Hercules KFL engine noise, help appreciated
Just an update.
During my current rebuild of my 2 herds, it was discovered that the noise in question was likely a spun rod bearing, large end at #1 piston
Would make sense
Machine shop resolved issue with bore of connecting rod and I am currently in assembly mode for both engines.
Regards

Re: Hercules KFL engine noise, help appreciated
An update: Both engines have been fully machined and parts inspected. I am currently taking my time assembling the engines since I missed the B-season, UGH. Many things were discovered during breakdown: spun rod bearing (cyl. #2) which was likely the noise, several clogged water passages, cracks in ...

Re: almost done my '57 Chris Craft Cruiser restoration, and seek final engine advice
Today the Blocks and Heads went to reputable local Machine shop for bake/dip/magnaflux. hopefully in a week I'll know the results. I plan on the following: - machine heads and blocks - all new parts except cam, crank, piston rods and maybe lifters - ditching the oil cooler and installing filter and ...

Re: almost done my '57 Chris Craft Cruiser restoration, and seek final engine advice
First I would like to thank those for your responses and help, and also wish a safer and happier 2021 for everyone. Soon I will remove both engines for breakdown (KFL and KLC), with pics to follow. Current plan is to rebuild (low cost and simple retrofit but I heed to consider a Plan B, since I had ...

Re: Hercules KFL engine noise, help appreciated
Engine not running, there is plenty of gap between the starter and flywheel. I’m thinking the flywheel and generarator pulley are separate, cannons confirm, and the noise is from the pulley. Almost impossible to inspect due to tight clearances. Flywheel inspected has no unusual wear patterns. Sound ...

Re: Hercules KFL engine noise, help appreciated
No work done recently. The 4 flywheel to crankshaft bolt look tight. Not familiar with the 2 housing bolts. I ran my hand around the flywheel as best as I could, considering it is very tight space, and did not feel any obstruction. Is it possible that the belt pulley sheered from the shaft?

the scraping sound is definitely coming from the flywheel area. I wish it were coming somewhere else where it can be easily worked on!)

almost done my '57 Chris Craft Cruiser restoration, and seek final engine advice
I am close to completing the restoration of my 1957 Chris Craft 28’ Sedan Cruiser with flybridge. It currently has twin in-line 6-cylinder Hercules K engines. This fall I want to replace the engines economically, possibly with readily available remanufactured 283”s. I have lots of experience with au...
