Greg,
Is the ride and handling of the 16' good? Just wondering how the shorter length does compared to a 19'RR.
Approx weight of a 16'?
Thanks,
John

Greg,

Please give me your input there.

16' special race boats
How rare are the 16' special race boats? How do they handle compared to longer barrelbacks? Perform well with the KB 121HP engine? Are the triple downdraft carbs an ok system? Any issues there? Appears maybe the drawbacks on them are smaller cockpit and rear maybe not really useable? Just curious ab...

Re: 1949 Chris Craft Custom
Greg, Thank you for the perfect info. Can only get one, so tough choice as I like both, for different reasons. Lines of RR are to me the best looking, but the blonde and unusual curves and upgraded details in Custom are also pretty nice looking. Does the Custom cruise at slower speeds in planing mod...

Re: 1949 Chris Craft Custom
Appreciate the replies and info. Can anyone tell me the approximate weight of a 20' Custom? Books I have give differing weights. Do they perform well with the MBL engine? I have been only thinking of a racing runabout, but these Customs also seem pretty special. Hard to compare the two as for sure t...

1949 Chris Craft Custom
Can anyone with experience give me advice on the ride and handling of a 20' Custom? Do they handle well, or a bit heavy?
Just trying to find out info during the winter when I cannot test drive one.
Thanks for any input.

Clearcoat finish
What are the latest thoughts on clearcoat finish on wood? Clearcoat over varnish work well? Dry climate build.
Any better UV protection with clearcoat vs. varnish?

hull const for new build in dry, low humidity climate
What is the best method for hull/deck/sides build for dry AZ climate? The West epoxy system on planks with plywood backing?, or plywood backing with planks imbedded in 5200? Not sure what is best method to try to insure no shrinkage/movement in dry, no humidity climate. Boat will be stored inside, b...

Re: Best Chris Craft- Barrel back or racing runabout?
Don, Thanks, that is what I had been told, so that is the direction on deck/side const. Now just need some further info on RR vs. barrel back on which one is best choice. I do like the RR longer front deck look, rear cockpit is not the best for guests, but not my priority. Stern on barrel is classic...

Re: Best Chris Craft- Barrel back or racing runabout?
Would adding the plywood sheathing for epoxy attachment to back the planking affect the originality/collectability aspect?
I sure think it would help eliminate any seam crack/shrink issues.
Thanks,
John

Best Chris Craft- Barrel back or racing runabout?
Wanted to get some input on which of these boats people feel are the best handling/riding of the Chris Craft. 1949-54 racing runabout or the collectible barrel back with MBL engine. Can experts give me the rundown on each for handling/ride/ collectability and style? Have my choices narrowed down to ...

Arizona storage
Can someone give me tips for storing in dry Arizona climate? Have fully enclosed/sealed aircraft hangar, never gets over 90 degrees in summer. But in dry AZ. What can be done to store a wood boat there, or is it not possible to keep one properly in AZ dry climate? Buckets of water inside boat with c...
