sorry you guys
I am so sorry for the bad advice! I just read Jeff wanted to "replace" his old pump. So why chose a bigger one? Why use a set-up with dual pumps? Why not just replace his old pump with a new one the same size. I got the feeling the old pump had gone bad and he wanted a new one. So back to my advice ...

bilge
Hey Jeff, get anything that runs on the same volt you have in your boat. 12V most likely. If you find one more pricy then it will probably last longer. But most any bilge pump will do the job.

Xk-19s
Hey could anyone tell me if there is anything on the early fiberglass boats in this book? The 19 foot Commander SS or the follow up model XK-19.
Thanks
Thanks

wood commander writes:there is a maroon XK 19 in need of restoration for $3500.
In my opinion anybody who DOES NOT buy an XK-19 for that kind of money needs a serious head check.

Italy?
Bill, if you could ask next time you talk to Herb if there is any way to find out more about the European boats. I know Chris-Craft had production in Italy so I assume the XKs were built there too.But where and at what plant? There must have been at least 35 boats made since Francois has number 35( ...

My 4 digit boat
Bill, all the 1970 XK-19s I have seen also have the Super Sport badge on the engine hatch.I have two of them. My burgundy XK-19 I bought in france a couple years ago is what I believe to be a 1970 manufactured in Italy. The Hull number was way up front and read(very hard to read due to extreme wear ...

also
just wanted to point out the fact beeing some boats have a hull # suggesting they were manufactured one year and then most probably had to sit around for a year (due to low sales) only to be sold next year with the new hardware and everything.

custom order?
Ok, with the color scheme you mentioned , confusing hull number and the odd seating arrangement. I wouldnt be surprised if it turns out this boat was originaly a custom order. A custom water-ski boat, delevired like this from the factory. Would be interesting to see what the Mariners museum can find...

welcome
Hey, The registry is not very active and there are no clubs dedicated to these boats alone. So this is the best place to be. Here is where people know old Chris-Crafts. I have never seen any plans with meausrements to the interriors. I guess the best way is to find another XK or SS in France and tak...

good and bad
The early fiberglass hulls were thicker because they just didnt know enough about the fiberglassenforced resin as a material. Chris-Craft actually tried fireing a gun at an early hull and found it held up and thought well this seems good enough :) Also no one knew at the time how long fiberglass hul...

Yes Bill got it down pretty well. Would just like to add why it is so important to have the old gelcoat taken away. Regardless of its condition. The total thickness of gelcoat is what is important. Not too thick and not too thin. Since gelcoat doesnt have the glass fibers in it it doesnt bend very w...

What do you want to do? Replace the inner transom that is rotten? In that case you are ten times better off if you lift the engine out of the boat. If you dont take this advice like you should then yes you need to support the engine. Hoisting the engine is in the worst case of cases NEVER more work ...

Not a model
Hey Bret,
The Lancer pics are not from a model ,they are "only" computer generated pics! I think Bo Zolland used his own boat for measurments and details. Pretty good job huh?

old engines yes, old gaskets no
The simple answer would be no, but that is only because the gaskets might start leaking. Some (old)engines are fitted with newer gaskets if a recent rebuild has been the case. If so sythetic oil can be chosen.
Hope this helps.

Hinges
Mike,
I am 99,9% sure the teak peaces are original. I got em too and ive seen others. My hinges were too rusty when i got them so I was unable to read the number casted in them. Can you read the numbers on yours? Would be a great help when trying to locate new ones for my other boats.

Go fast?
Tom, The XK-19 performs alot better with the I/O set up. Apart from better manouverability the wheight distribution is further back with the I/O which helps top speed. The V-dr boats were manufactured in a total of 75 (1970) and the I/O in a total of 201 (1970-1975). In my opinion the I/O also looks...

Hey wood commander; Your non feed back system has had to be giving some feed back. Look at all racing drives, they never have trim tabs! Anyone who has experienced these problems can easily understand the great importance of heavy duty installment when mounting your steering system to the transom. P...
