Where to find cylinder head for 283
I have a bad cylinder head on my 1966 Cavalier 283. I'm having a bear of a time trying to find something to replace it. What are my options? Finding cylinder heads with my casting number, 3774684, even new ones, has been impossible. There's one on eBay, but it's the wrong side. Help!

Re: Need a new engine
Maybe it's just my mood today, but I'm thinking that I'm going to sell the boat. The boat itself has never been restored and the wood is in pretty good shape. The trailer is pretty good too. I thought this would be a good project boat for me, but I'm not setup to be building engines. I just wanted a...

Re: Need a new engine
I've been searching on the internet for replacement 283 engines or parts like suggested. I can't find any place that sells a new or remanufactured 283 engine or any place that has heads with the same casting number. Talking to the folks at Jasper engines, they can hook me up with a rebuild, but the ...

Re: Need a new engine
A few pics. This is the valve issue I mentioned, and the leaky block. 2 spots on the block seep water when running. Nevermind, I can't seem to get picture uploads to work.

Need a new engine
Hey all, this is my first post about this topic. I've searched the forum and found anything related to this topic is many years old. I have a '66 Cavalier 16' with a 283. Won't idle, difficult to start without starting fluid, won't run under about 2500 RPM, and leaves some blue smoke behind it. Afte...

Re: Got an old Cavalier as my first boat!
Well, I'm going to pull the head this week and get that one valve replaced. I keep getting advice to pull both heads and do 'em all, but, like Joanroy suggests, I'm only going to replace the one that's actually tested as having failed. If something else goes wrong, I'll address it then. I had to rep...

Got an old Cavalier as my first boat!
Hello all, and I use that term loosely as there seems to be so little activity in this particular forum. Through a bit of luck, I am the owner of a 1966 16' Cavalier, hull number VUD-16-2074C. The boat has never been restored and is mostly original, it seems. I've decided to do some work on it, but ...
