Re: Finding the original color

It seems like the majority of Skiff I have seen are white. I feel it is important to preserve mine as it was in white. The other colors almost appear to have been a special order because the are so few. My hull is SK - 18 - 414. Nothing on my hull card indicates exterior color. My Father's hull numb...

Salisbury MD factory worker

Well, after too long I was able to get back to work on my 18 Sea Skiff. I had my self stuffed into the forward locker tracing the choke cable to the back side of the dash. My flashlight revealed some writing on the underside of the deck plywood. I snapped a picture of it with my phone. When I expand...

Re: Lapstrake plank replacement resources

I found "How to Restore Your Wooden Runabout" Are you saying that "The Complete Wooden Boat Restoration Guide" will have dedicated chapter (s) on Lapstrake?

Lapstrake plank replacement resources

I have recently checked out the Dannenburg book from a public library. In my review I found it to particularly scant on the subject of Lapstrake. To expand my knowledge on the subject I am looking for additional written material. I see some one on Amazon from Peter Spectre. Has anyone seen this book...

What a great story. Boating, the people you meet and the restoration process is definitely a journey that never ends........its ever evolving.

Re: Paint colors

Hello fellow Skiff Owner, I see your post on being a new member. Congrats! I own Sk-18-414. I have been searching for my fathers 1956 18' skiff Sk-18-398 which was green on the hull color for many years. Do you know your hull number stamping? Lots of great information here to be absorbed. Can't wait...

Re: Garage heat sadness

The more you dig into a situation the more you find. Its never as easy as we hope it will be. When it comes to this garage nothing has been easy. The previous owner of this home and garage was never big on keeping things functioning as they could or should. It took me three years to gut the place ou...

Re: Garage heat sadness

Thanks All. Thats good news. The Farenheat seems to be getting good reviews. It will just be a more direct and cheaper fix to my heat shortage. Always better to hear from people having similiar experiences. The last two winters have been really tough to get things done in the garage. Mark S truenort...

Garage heat sadness

I know this is off topic from restoration work but I can not restore if I can not keep the garage comfortable. So here is my question. Does anyone out there have a Farenheat 5000 garage heater installed in their garage? The Home Depot has all the technical specifications on this unit on their websit...

Re: Nice Kodachromes from the way-back machine!

Hey thanks for posting those pix. The first one looks like it should be made into a post card. Wow.

The second shot is unique too. The aluminum beer keg in the smaller boat is a nice touch :)

Do you know if Denny was black as the original color?

Re: 18 Sea skiff 1956 component color schemes

Thanks for the brochure image Grant, it gives me a solid point of reference on those side boxes. I will scrape off some layers on the steering column and see what I get at the bottom layer. I figure stripping the varnish on those lids will give me a good idea as to how hard the rest of the interior ...

Thanks so much to all for the great information. Looks like I need to get the whole information package on both hulls from the CC museum. Please keep your eyes and ears open for SK - 18 - 398. 18 Sea skiff 1956 component color schemes

I was hoping for some feed back from fellow Skiff owners. I have a few small projects on my skiff that can be done this winter. First is the steering wheel and column with steering gear box. I can tell from the majority of photos I have seen that the steering wheel is period correct when "almond" or...

Well there is a fantastic ccmpany i have used on my SeaRay Amberjack fiberglass boat on three different occasions when substituting teak. Their name is Plasteak. Re: Hull card mystery

I went back to the Hull card information and compared the B S O numbers. My Dads old boat was E-7088. My current boat is E-7096. Dads boat hand written date for shipping is 6-1-54 mine is 5-5-56. Based on the B S O numbers I am partial to the theory the guy in the shipping department was having a se...

Looking for old family Sea Skiff

I am looking for any potential leads as to whereabouts of my Fatherrs old Sea Skiff. He had restored many Sea Skiffs back in the 70's and 80's but this one held a special place with my Brother and I. The Skiff hull number is SK-18-398. At the time it was sold the hull color was a deep green color an...

Well anything can be done. I hope you have considered the "if it should be done". I am a big fan of leaving old boats and cars Period Correct. If you do push forward you will need to leave the bulk head in place. More specifically replacing it with a step thru type. Think upside down horse shoe. The...

Hello all. I just wanted introduce myself here in the Skiff forum. I am Mark Saunders from Michigan and the new Caretaker of SK-18-414. I picked her up at the middle of October in St Clair MI.
