Re: 57 Continental 18'
Thanks Al. These 6" are open with a teardrop base. I tried to match up screw holes on deck seemed to match but hard to tell since it is upside down getting a new bottom. My drawings from the antique boat museum show chocks.

57 Continental 18'
I have a pair of chocks for my Continental that came with the purchase but I don't think they are right. They are brass chrome plated but are 6" long. I think from what I've seen and read, the 18' came with 4 1/2" chocks. I understand that it was whatever the dealer had on hand sometimes but would l...

57 Continental 18'
Hi having some difficulty finding correct hardware. Looking for bow light #2131 stern pole socket 4015 and stern pole B-8759. If anyone has extras or know of a source, I would certainly appreciate the lead.

Re: Sherwood pump gear housing
Thanks, Jim. It did need a little persuasion but finally came out. Very tight fit! Took care of the plug and now looking for a source for an inner and outer gasket for the G8451 Sherwood pump. Any thoughts?

Sherwood pump gear housing
1957 KFL Engine has a 1/8 NPT plug in block behind Sherwood pump gear housing that has to be re-tapped and plugged. Need to remove this gear housing to fit a tap in. Have removed the pump and removed the three bolts holding the gear housing and dist. but will not come off. Tapped with a block of woo...

Re: Windshield same year make different syyle
Thanks Greg. I checked for additional screw holes and the push pull throttle but appears to be original as built. Thanks again for your insight.

Re: Compression Test
Thanks guys, I think it ran this spring but before that maybe 15-20 years. You think there might be some life in the old girl? I just remembered a picture with the head off and it looked like brand new shinny valves.

Compression Test
Before pulling the engine out of my 57 Continental 18' I wanted to do a compression test. Previous owner had put new points condenser and rebuilt fuel pump and carbs on the KFL. Said he got it running but "smoked a lot" never changed oil that was in it. Compression reads as follows: #1 100 #2 95 #3 ...

Re: Windshield same year make different syyle
Thanks Jim and Greg. I appreciate your input. Two clarify the "4 pc windshield" It is split in the middle and then has 2 side pcs like wings on the sides that almost take a 90 degree turn. So if the throttle is not on the steering wheel, where is it? Is there any more info on the brand? Chrysler del...

Windshield same year make different syyle
On my 57 Continental 18' it has a split windshield in two pieces and talked to another owner of 1957 18' that's about 100 numbers from mine but has a 4 piece split windshield. Also I have a 2 spoke cream sheller steering wheel and others have 3 spoke black. Is this something Chris Craft did on purpo...

Re: 5200 bottom
Thanks for your replies however, I’m still not convinced that re-using original wood is not a good practice. I think I know the process to install a new 5200 bottom and plan on following it. After removing the bottom and inter-bottom I planned on repairing or replacing whatever damage I find includi...

5200 bottom
Hi all... just acquired 1957 18' Continental and bottom is original. It appears not to have any rot on the bottom or transom but a couple of spots on the stem. I have read restorers who have removed a bottom to fix some ribs then reused old bottom planks while only replacing one or two boards and se...
