Re: 22' Chris Craft Sea Skiff Cradle help.
I tried posting a picture but... resolution to high? I will try again. Had her out several times now. I am recognizing how much she likes being tied up to the sea wall. She rides real nice there with her whips and lines. I am thinking she likes it better floating there then she would hanging by her ...

Re: 22' Chris Craft Sea Skiff Cradle help.
Certainly no need to lift her high. I would still need a cradle for winter or just leave her hang. I love this boat.

Re: 22' Chris Craft Sea Skiff Cradle help.
Jim... You always come through. I discovered it is a lot of effort to do as all three cross members at the rear must be profiled to fit the bottom. Even covered with plywood so it is almost like a cradle table. I may be over thinking this. Do I understand that the boat can be lifted and kept summer'...

22' Chris Craft Sea Skiff Cradle help.
I did it. Could not help myself. I bought a beautiful turn key Chris Craft 22' Sea Skiff. She looks nice in the stable. I am going to build a under carriage lift and have no idea of where she should be supported. I sure do not want to hurt her. An ideal help would be the Original Chris Craft specifi...

Re: Hull Prep and Paint questions
Some really good advice. The plywood with a paper surface is called MDO for Medium Density Overlay. This is a great surface for finisging and is probably best left alone. As far as paint cracking... I guess there is more you need to know. I still contend that unless you really know what you are doin...

Re: Hull Prep and Paint questions
I agree with JOANROY. Great advice. I have seen to many boats destroyed by someone striping off the paint. That paint has been protecting the wood for a long time. When you start striping you are going to remove wood as well. Hey, there is only so much wood there to start with and I suggest it stay ...

Re: Prop Size?
Henry H. Smith Company Inc. Bill Smith is FANTASTIC. His company, when I dealt with him four years ago, has records of Chris Craft going back at least to my 1929 CC. He looked up my boat and told me which prop the boat was shipped with and that they later revised the prop size for better performance...

Re: Gas tank restorayion
I found a company that did a relining on my original 1929 30gal fuel tank. That was 35 years ago. If I recall it was a type of neoprene. They put a few gallons in the tank and sealed it all up. Then they rotated the tank in all directions for a few hours and I think they leave the material in for mo...

Re: Looking for a copy of a pre-war M series engine manual
I have a EM/LM manual. It is an AMPLEX manual for the engine. I got it long ago.... It has been very useful for building, restoring and maintaining my 1929 Chrysler Royal. It gives specs for both the Royal and the Imperial. It is a photo copy that I own. I would be more then happy to copy and send i...

Re: Plywood underlay for hull sides
You say the side planks are good. You want to make them better. Hmmm.... I guess I would just leave them alone. Also consider if you use 5200 or epoxy the sides will be so much more difficult to repair. I think a 3/8th inch thickness should be sufficient. I would try and save what is there. Use trad...

Re: Inside bottompaint
All my experience is with INTERLUX BILGE PAINT. They say that red is better but I am unsure why. I think the color red makes it difficult for insects to live in also. Something about the red color filtering UV light which molds and such need to grow. A good washing and let it dry well before paintin...

Re: Hull Construction- wood type
I had to replace a stringer in my 1929 Cadet. My understanding is that Quarter Sawn Sitka Spruce was used. It was difficult to find a piece 20' long 2" thick and 12" wide but I did find a piece from a ship builder on the East Coast. Probably not a lot of difference in Fir as they are both a softwood...

Great Job!
It is too nice to be sitting at the dock.
I have heard of this problem being caused by water in the fuel also.

Well Okay MoonDocker.... I got a feeling the engine is just fine or it would not have started so easily and run so nicely at lower RPM's. But at least you tried and I think (bet money on it) you are right the engine is fine. Starts right up and runs great. Every rebuilt engine is going to have some ...

Re: engine failure
Hmmm... Interesting.... I am curious now. It seems to me that if the engine was overheating and seizing that it would be difficult at best to immediately restart as stated. If I am wrong here I would love to know as I am not an engine guy but years ago I had an engine, in a car, overheat and seize. ...

Re: engine failure
Oil pressure sounds great. No problem there. Definately sounding like fuel and a frustrated owner. The noise it makes before dieing is probably just the transmission slapping around. Pulling out the choke????? Why? Is the owner able to put a fuel pressure gage on just before the carb to watch fuel p...

Re: engine failure
Boy does that sound kinda like some of my issue. Starts right back up too hugh.... Yep. Well if it was just rebuilt then that might explain the oil smell. You say fuel and ignition are ruled out. But I wonder how you can rule that out. On my boat people swear it is fuel but then why would it start r...

Re: rebuild engine oil change
Well, I've read this thread a few times now. I would not be shy about changing the oil several times during a break in period. 20 hours... Heck, change it at 10 and then change it again at another 10. And then change it again. Take a look at the oil color on the stick; how does it look? If it is bla...

Re: CHRYSLER ROYAL ENGINE stalling more frequently
Yes, well sort of. She seems to always have enough fuel. The old carb holds about a quart of fuel in her own belly. My friends agree with you that it is a fuel malfunction. Yet, she did burn up a coil wire. The coil got very hot as well. Condenser, Points.... The gap on the points had tightened up t...

Thanks Al, I tried wiggeling the key around while underway. Gave it a pretty good wiggle without actually turning off the ignition but had no issue. Re: Looking for advice on a boat lift for my 1929 Cadet
Okay, I built the new cradle lift for the boat. Being a 1929 with a self planeing hull the center of the boat is the deepest. Thus a standard lift like used today with two bunk boards running front to rear will not work. It would be like a rocking chair. So I followed the Manufacture cradle points. ...

Re: Proper Boat Lift
I am creating a new lift for my 1929 22' Chris Craft Cadet. I was using a center pipe winding type and lifting at the three factory lift points. I should state that I am in a boathouse with wood beams. I have two special wood LAM Beams fore and aft for attaching (hanging) the pipe. Actually it works...

Hi Tom, Had the same issue on my boat. The "Backer Block" was slready supposed to be in there. Opps... I did the same thing. I made the backer block, crawling under that rear deck to do it was no fun but necessary, out of a piece of 1" mahogany. It is difficult because it should conform to the curve...

Re: Looking for advice on a boat lift for my 1929 Cadet
Been studying that method but am concerned because of the bottom profile of the boat. The stringers appear to be straight but the bottom profile varies a lot on this old girl. Also, I have the added problem of my lift points, the ceiling beams being 14' apart so the span of the bunk boards would pro...

Looking for advice on a boat lift for my 1929 Cadet
Finished restoration on the 1929 Cadet three years ago. I keep her in a boathouse and lifted our of the water when not in use. My lift is a three point using the factory lift points being the two stringers under the rear seat and the bow lift ring. It works very well but I notice the bow lift point,...
