Reduction gear

I am having trouble welding small cracks in my water cooled reduction case. Two different welders are stymied as to why it keeps cracking. The last welder used EUTECTIC XYRON-2-24 cast iron welding rod. The reducer is on a 1939 CC M engine. I am told these reducers are very rare. Any suggestions as ...

Drive train problems

My 1939 CC cruiser is having drive train problems. At 2000 RPM it stops forward motion and the RPM goes up as if it were slipping. At 1000 RPM it runs well all day long. I have an "M" engine #11822 with a Paragon Reducer model 3XE-90 serial #D2870. The transmission is a Paragon model RDC-2XE serial ...

Greg, Yes there was two counter sunk dishes in the shaft that aligned perfectly with set screws. Thanks again.

Re: Drive Shaft

I got it. The shaft is back in place and secured. We pushed the shaft back just far enough to remove the collar, cleaned both surfaces, replaced collar and tightened both retaining bolts. Next we pried and gently hammered the collar forward into position and then tightened into place. The cause of t...

Drive Shaft

My drive shaft on a 1939 crusier has backed out of the transmission flange about a inch. The boat is in the water and only about 4 inches of shaft is accessible to clamp onto. I cannot get the shaft to move forward back into the flange. Does anyone have a suggestion without taking the boat out of th...

Recanvasing decks

I am preparing to install Irish felt and then canvas to my wood decks on a pre-war 33' cruiser. My questions are: what glue and should I pretreat the canvas with a preservative or just paint the canvas directly with a marine enamel? Which paint would be suggested?

1940 Transmission selector lever removal

On a 1940 Chris Craft cruiser how is the chrome hand lever at the helm removed from the brass 1" shaft going to the bilge? The bottom of the shaft is splined. Is the top handle splined, set screw or key way? Don't want to damage anything on removal so any help would be appreciated.

Dash Identification Tags

I need help finding a source for dash identification plates for a 1939 Chris-Craft cruiser. These are stainless steel and measure 1 1/2" x 1 1/16" with a 3/8" hole to fit around a switch neck. As I need about a dozen of these plates, blank plates would work best as this allows me to customize them. ...

Re: Searchlights or Spotlights

Who restores or has parts for this 1939 searchlight? It is possibly a K S (Kilborn Sauer) light. I need a crown style gear and mechanism to swivel the light up and down. Also need the lamp retaining ring inside the drum.
Appreciate any help.

Re: Searchlights or Spotlights

I have attached a photo of a searchlight from the 1939 Chris-Craft accessory catalog. Mine is this exact model except my light is a drum model as opposed to the teardrop shown in the catalog. Also attached are: a photo of my searchlight and the mark that is stamped on the spotlights. Hopefully this ...

Re: Searchlights or Spotlights

This mark is stamped on several of the spotlight parts....the mark very closely resembles the "and" symbol on the number 7 key on the computer keyboard. I have a photo if that would help. Please let me know.

Recaulking top sides

I am in need of info on how to and what products to use when recaulking the top sides on a 1939 33' CC cruiser. The boat was moved from Minnesota (65% humidity) to Colorado (35% humidity) in 2002. It will return to MN in approximately 2009. It has been out of the water for 5 years. The gaps to be ca...
