Re: Old subject. Oil recommendations. 'W' motors.

Install good "By-Pass" oil filters, then change after break in, then every 100hrs (or once a year) thereafter. Get the best deal on the best oil you can find. It seems counterproductive to me to have spent the time and money on these engines and then cheap out on oil while planning a 6000 plus mile ...

Re: Boot stripe and hull side white gloss or semi?

The 1957 Chris Craft equipment and accessory catalog lists hull side paints as "semi-gloss". Many of these actually appeared satin to nearly flat depending on color and application. This is consistent with my memory of those on our showroom and shop. Boot Stripe is gloss. Today you see gloss being u...

Re: Boot stripe and hull side white gloss or semi?

As I recall painted hulls were finished "satin" , may have been semi gloss, definitely not gloss. Someone on here knows for sure but an accessory manual from period would list hull side paints as well as boot stripe colors. May have one in club archives. Mine are not readily available at the moment ...

Re: KL convert to downdraft carb

Have you done any trouble shooting beyond the carb and fuel pump? Symptoms suggest ignition failure after warm up, or intermittent fuel supply interruption as possible areas of concern. Faulty coils and condenser may produce similar systems. An obstruction in bottom of fuel tank contacting stand pip...

This info is usually on the hull card/dealer record. Type and number. Ex: Yale Jr. #34. The reproductions are pretty good, more reliable and safer.

Yeah, there was an auxiliary rudder that could be mounted under the nozzle. They were helpful on deceleration and to a lesser extent at low speeds. Shipped not installed.

Re: What are you working on during lock downs?

Not positive but 1957 or 1958. Easy "tell" is the greater expanse of blonde on the fore deck ahead of dash. I've seen the classic windshield retrofitted on newer deck and its quite obvious. (IMO the classic windshield may be worthless compared to the tall wrap around replacement but its as though th...

Hey Steve, I have a complete windshield less glass for your continental if you need one. Re-Chromed. Was going to convert sedan to open and decided not to. Have a few other bits left over as well. Best looking, hardest riding utility ever. Still miss it.

POP has a reputation for hijacking other's ads and/or listings without authorization. I have, on more than one occasion, found boats for sale on their site without seller's knowledge. You may want to search around for a possible original listing.

We always just bleached, applied natural filler stain, then seal and varnish. To the best of my knowledge,
Chris Craft did not offer "blonde" stain. We would tint if repairing and new finish needed to match older finish.

Re: carb wedges for chrysler hemi (m 45)

Assuming your capris is as original with the hemi I think it would be safe to expect it to perform fine without intake mods. Performance may very well improve with wedges, but given how special your Capris is, I would be reluctant to modify the hatch from original. If you are determined, however, I ...

If you haven't already, check with Algonac Cast Products. They are descendent from original "Algonac Foundry" that likely made them originally. It has been reported that they still have many original patterns and are now more interested in accommodating the hobby. We had them cast a "run" of struts ...

Re: 16' special race boats

The only bad things you will hear about a 16 SRB is that there are not enough of them (less than 170 made) and they are too expensive (unless you already own one). Great "little" boat that thinks its bigger. KB has all the attributes of a great hot rod engine, lumpy idle, great sound, and finicky (r...

John, Both do well with light loads, the more you load the more the 20 custom will stand out. As an old former boat peddler I am compelled to ask how you intend to use these boats? If your primary interest, for example, is boat shows and shorter rides in calm water with seldom more than two occupant...

Re: 1949 Chris Craft Custom

John, in my experience the 20 custom was the finest runabout (in its class) produced by Chris-Craft in the post war era, perhaps the best 20 footer ever to come out of Algonac. I believe it was based on the pre war 23 custom rather than a "scaled up" 19 supporting the feeling that they behave like a...
