Re: Too much steam

I thought I would check back in and update. Had the manifolds baked, blasted, magnifluxed and pressure tested and all checked out. Put a impeller driven water pump on which flowed more water. Blew the head and block out to make sure there were no blockages Last night I switched the hoses where the s...

I think you're right Jim and appreciate your input. I'll let ya know what comes of this when I get the manifolds checked out. That all being said I'm not going to tell him he was right....I'll never hear the end of it. LOL

Re: Too much steam

He made gaskets and used sealant to my knowledge. My dad bought the starboard manifold 20 years ago or so maybe 25 and he thinks it was used. Other than that he doesn't remember much ( selective memory) lol. That hose does looked to be kinked but I don't believe it's inhibiting the flow but I'm prob...

Re: Too much steam

I will check again @ 500 rpm. Did compression test and all was good there. Bypassed water pump and hooked a sump pump to the hoses and ran pushing more water through. Port side steam was better but still noticeable as was starboard but more on the starboard side. I'm really leaning towards bad manif...

Re: Too much steam

It's right on the chris craft mark. I don't feel timing is an issue. It starts immediately and runs great. Used a timing light to hit that mark.

Re: Too much steam

I'm curious whhy everybody mentions the timing. What issue would that contribute to? TIming is on the chris craft mark and its firing right up and hitting on all cylinders but seems louder than normal.

Re: Too much steam

previous manifold had corrosion on the port forward corner and a piece popped off. Tried to fix but too rotten. A ground was located there on the manifold bolt but has since been moved. Haven't checked since last fall when it went back together. This is what I had at that time. 1 135 2 140 3 135 4 1...

Re: Too much steam

It's original cc intake aluminum for the Rochester 4 jet with the wedge cast in. Brass gear pump rebuilt by van ness. Pertronix ignition with pertronix coil. Port manifold to our knowledge is original to the boat and the other is appx. 25 years old.

Too much steam

Sure hope you guys can help with what I'm about to write because I'm about to pull what's left of my hair out. Anyway last summer I had a myriad of problems resulting in a rebuilt starter, water pump and alternator as well as a top end rebuild including the heads being checked and resurfaced ( they ...

Re: cutting out

Turned out when I had the carb restored that carb (Rochester 4Jet) had an early secondary float level and a late. They set mine to early and that was causing the carb to run out of fuel at higher rpm's. When I got it back after changing the setting that allowed the carb to hold more fuel and fixed t...

Re: cutting out

autolite distributor with pertronix and the pertronix coil. firing order is good. Set with a timing light to cc timing mark. Runs great up to 1,000rpm but it comes and goes with the dropping off and coming back. I think it might be fuel related because when it falls down if I spray carb cleaner it w...

cutting out

Okay I got an issue at higher rpm's (above 1000) with what I would call a cutting out or stumbling. Idle to 1k is great. Just did a top end rebuild ( heads checked and resurfaced, manifolds cleaned and gaskets replaced on ends, new/used intake). Also carb was redone by Daytona and to the best of my ...
