Ok, well tackled it and first starting using a chisel and once I got good traction I incorporated a grinder with heavy duty sanding disk via a method I saw on Youtube. Flipped it over and just used the grinder and got a real nice curving motion which seemed much easier. Have to sand the sides and mo...

Kerry, thanks. Pics look great and really help. Yeah, I've been initimidated by this part for a couple months now and have been hesitant so as not to have to buy more wood but will have to jump in. Will take some pics and post so that others may watch how not to do it.

Stem Gripe Joint

Well I'm at the point where I"m a bit frozen. Need to get past it but have read and read about the stam and gripe rabbets and the sophisticated cuts etc and have seen various methods. On Danenbergs site and read and re-read Chptr 8 but its pretty general and goes over my head a bit . Question: Whats...

Yep already been with a group from the forum. Purchased a large set of plans but they only had so much on my boat. Talked with archivists etc and purchased the set of plans and line drawings on my Rocket. Just showed a round tank so i will have to try to dig up more info on the specs

Ah ok great point. My plans show a cylindrical tank so should i likely try to replace with that instead of the rectangular one? I guessed id have to try to locate the specs on the original used. Hm where to begin. Thx

Fuel Tank Basics

So while my hull is being slowly worked on , I'm looking to tackle some of the other large items with my tank being one of them. I have what I believe is the original fuel tank. While the original boat drawings show a cylindrical tank, the tank in my boat is rectangular. 1. Should I presume the draw...

thanks john. I get what you're saying about the battens across and touching all frames but want to make sure the correcsponding SB sides match the Port sides in terms of angle, depth etc. I was thinking about building a 2 x 4 beam across the top of flipped boat, port to SB across, level of course wi...

bottom frames transom to bow

So let me see if i can state this clearly as it may come out sounding confused. I purchased $250 worth of line drawings from CC archives but may not have gotten ALL of the correct drawings i needed. I have my bottom frames redone (cut from original templates) which were not all that well even and al...

Frame and Bilge Paint Question

I see a lot of pictures of folks rebuilding frame members and lining up the keel and stem/gripe etc and assembling the entire thing or what looks like an entire assembly with screws etc before paint??? Is the preferred method to build and then paint the frames and bilge after its all together? How d...

can only speak on my experience but my 16' runabout was in bad shape. I wedged it up on blocks and pulled an old trailer (modified with carpet covered bunks) underneath and fastened it down. Nothing special as long as its secure. If its in bad shape, then whatever gets it there in one piece. More im...

agreed, i don't see much penetration to new wood but have been slapping on two coats nonetheless. I'm assuming I get good penetration but have been waiting several days but now that I know I likely don't have to, it should speed up the process somewhat. Using the bilge paint right on top of the CPES...

Yeah, i hear ya but they didn't have the 5200 either but seems to be the way to go for some flexibility and adhesion. Guess they were using the cloth or linen soaked middle layer but thats all rotted out like my frames.

I have the same wheel on my 1947 16' runabout . Mine fits not the shaft with the key like you said but theres a circular spring clip that fits in the wheel. I'll see if I can dig up my old pics and see if there's a closeup. I'll see if i can post something soon.
