Galley and ceiling lights

I have a 1968 57' Connie. I've got everything electrical working in this old gal except for the ceiling lights in the galley and the ceiling lights throughout the boat. All electrical plugs are working. I'm assuming all of those overheads are on the same circuit. Any ideas?

Thanks. I opted not to do the vapor barrier and got the AC fixed. Much more comfortable and a lot less humidity.

Mast lights for 57' 1968 Constellaion

The previous owner rewired the mast but there are no lights. Not sure exactly what I need. There's wiring at the top and wiring about halfway down on the back of the mast. Any idea what kind of lights go there and where I might find them?

Vapor barrier under berths

Mildew is a constant battle on a boat, especially an old one like mine. I'm thinking about putting a plastic vapor barrier underneath each berth to keep the moisture from the bilge away from the mattresses and the drawers underneath the bunks. Can anyone think of why this wouldn't be a good idea? I ...

Cleat and Stanchion Screws for 57-foot Constellation

I have looked EVERYWHERE for new cleat and stanchion screws for our 1968 57-foot Connie. We've had all the hardware re-chromed and the old screws ain't gonna get it. But I can't find replacement screws anywhere. I've attached a picture. The best I can calculate, it's a 5/16" diameter screw 2 1/2 inc...

Re: First episode of Rock This Boat is here!

Glad you folks like the video. I am all thumbs when it comes to things like this so I wanted to make this video series for the average Joe and Jane out there. I say, "If I can do it, you can too" and that's the truth. I won't lie, though. It's A LOT of work, but I think preserving these old boats is...

Stanchion Hardware

Hey, gang, we're in the process of revarnishing the toerail. We have the stanchions and handrails off. The stanchion hardware — where it meets the underside of the handrail and where it meets the toerail — needs some work. I'm assuming it was originally chrome, but it now has hairline cracks and oxi...

Re: Rock This Boat Chris-Craft Restoration Teaser

Fortunately, the bottom was freshly done when we bought it. I imagine that can be a nightmare. We should launch the series within the next month or so. Still in post-production on about 5 episodes. I feared we may run out of ideas for episodes but there are endless things to do on this boat. It's be...

Re: Connie hull paint question

Well, it's been a year since I first started this thread. In the meantime, I did some experimenting. The marine caulk was almost impossible to work with, plus the price was ridiculous. I did a small section and ended up pulling it all out. I checked with some old boatwrights who directed me to some ...

Anyone know of a video or instructions on how to properly change the oil in a Detroit Diesel 8V-71? Or is this something I should not attempt on my own?

Re: Porthole trim

Jim Staib didn't have it but, as fate would have it, I found something better. A boat across from mine was having its bottom cleaned by a professional diver. I happened to be working on my boat and the diver and I struck up a conversation. Then I remembered the lost piece of trim and told him about ...

Correct blue stripe color

I'm currently painting the hull of my 57' Constellation. Once I'm done, I'm going to paint the iconic blue stripe on the sides and back. I want to make sure I get this exactly right. How do I find out the exact color? Also, how do I find out exactly how thick the stripe is supposed to be?

Porthole trim

I've had to replace some wood around the outside portholes on my 1968 57' Connie. I needed to remove the metal trim and it got pretty beat up in the process. Anyone know where to get new trim or how to fabricate it? I also have one of the round pieces of trim on the round portholes in the engine roo...

The expert at Pettit suggest Easypoxy. I think it comes in white gloss and white semi-gloss. I'm assuming I should go with the white gloss for the hull but you know what they say about assuming.

Connie hull paint question

I have a 1968 57' Constellation. I need to repair some seams on the hull and repaint in a few places. I need the paint to match what's on there. What do I fill the seams with and what paint should I use.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yeah, that's the site I went to but there's no name. It has the past owners but not the person doing the restoration. If anyone recognizes the marina I can call them.
