Re: Prop shaft packing
well, suspecting you have the two part glans type...put some of the correct size packing on/in and then tighten the two bolts equally and let it drip a little...tighten to taste as they say...she needs to drip. Same deal basically if you have the big nut style. Do fret over this...it is an inexact s...

Son, we are very glad to have a young guy interested in antique boating! This old guy, looking at your pics and reading your text, gives sage advice: Get in that CC and Go Boating...those gaps are normal for the situation as your report it...if you do any filling it will just crush the grain when sh...

oh yeah...I don't question the engineering...it works for sure...but this is not a transmission situation but a cam deal. Not only that we really don't have a "transmission" so much as a reverse gear...etc etc.
interesting setup for sure....John in Va.

Well Steve...no boat project here...but grateful to have an indoor renovation going on in a mid 19th century addition to my 1822 home. Using my tools, taking my time, no pressure, got heat...social distancing...life it good.

you can split it apart there...and that thing you point to ...I think that tightens the sector...did on old cars and that is an automobile unit of some kind. If it ain't broke...I always elect not to open pandora's box.

I would bet you can find such plans...or copy someone's original...thing is storing ladders is a problem....take up a lot of space, if you just want to get in and out...and are in shape....you can get one of those ladders in a bag...rope deal...easy to stow.

I would be careful with that idea...wondering if a standard type platform would affect performance? Might drag upon acceleration or something...act sort of like a trim tab but maybe in an unwanted way? Through research and advice from others is the key I guess? John in Va

just kicking this around in my mind: I don't think vibration on the hard, water applied as you say, is necessarily relevant. In my experience running on the water is another thing entirely. Sadly we must often launch and relaunch and fiddle and test...but to condemn the components based on a land te...

Just my opinions: I would not varnish those hull sides...for all the right-0n reasons mentioned in the previous response.
