Re: Chris Craft Sea Skiff Kit Boat?

Some dimensions for the boat would help to identify it, particularly length and width. Based on the photo of the transom, it doesn't appear to be a Chris Craft kit, unless the transom has been replaced.

Kit Boat decals

I have one original kit boat decal; the kind shown in the sales brochures on the boat sides, just ahead of the transom. I'd like to have them reproduced to use on my Barracuda and my 12' runabout. Does anyone know who I should contact to get permission, so I can do it legally?

32' Cherokee hull number location

My wife's nephew just acquired a 32' Cherokee sailboat. Can anyone advise on where to find a hull number?

Re: 1954 Zephyr Kit Boat

Dan, That shot of the boat before restoration is interesting. It looks to be sitting on an old Mastercraft trailer. They were built in Connecticut. As far as it being a Zephyr, it could be that it is and the original owner modified the deck when it was built. Another possibility is that it is a Dolp...

Re: 1954 Zephyr Kit Boat

Dan, The split center deck leads me to believe that you have a Barracuda, not a Zephyr. Both models were introduced in the 1955 kit boat lineup. The Zephyr had a solid deck between the fore and aft seating compartments. Both had a longer foredeck than what you show. Was that one of the modifications...

I have kit boat sales literature for every year from 1950 to 1958. The only year that the Hornet model was offered was 1954. I have two different flyers from that year and the dimensions listed are 13' 4.25" length and 62" beam. I know the Essential Guide lists the Hornet as a 1957 model, but the li...

Lynne, there were four 14' models offered by the kit boat division in 1955. From the photo you posted,I'd say your boat is a Caribbean model. It would help to know if the frames are fir or mahogany and have a more detailed picture of the deck. The windshield looks to be aftermarket. FYI, a 1956 pric...

The photo of the trailer shows an Alloy logo on the fender. I think CC spun off the trailer business to them in the late 50s. I've seen other early Alloy trailers that are dead ringers for CC trailers with the distinctive fender shape and independent suspension. Alloy Marine Products continued to bu...

Great to see another kit boat, Jim. I haven't seen many 10' prams. I've got a 12' runabout and a 14' Barracuda, both awaiting restoration. There were a few posts here earlier, Al, but they got wiped out when the site was having some trouble and apparently not recoverable. And yes, that is a 5.5 hp C...

I pulled out my kit boat literature for a little more research. In the 1957 and 1958 sales brochures they shows a 16' Sports Utility that appears to have dimensions identical to the 1958 Cavalier Sports Utility. The only difference appears to be the chrome trim. On the kit boats, there is a chrome C...

I'm a little late to the party here, but I think Al nailed the ID on this with the 16' Sports Utility Cavalier. Length 15' 11", beam 79", draft 9", weight 625 lbs., price $935, $100 more if you added seat & back cushions. The engine looks to be a 1961 Evinrude Lark. Not sure on the trailer, maybe a ...

Andreas, I believe that you are correct on the date and quantity on the sales brochure. I have roughly 2 dozen pieces of sales literature for CC kit boats, outboards and trailers. Roughly half of them have printer's marks similar to what you describe, with quantities varying from 75,000 to 200,000. ...

I am doing the research for Mike & Kirk. A Land Cruiser brochure was part of a lot that sold on ebay last week, but I was outbid. Chris Craft Land Cruiser

It appears that a second example of the elusive Chris Craft Land Cruiser, the camping trailer that was available in 1954 in kit form, may have been found. A friend of mine says he has purchased one and will be picking it up from the daughter of the original owner in a couple of weeks. He wants to re...

I would suggest that is is either a 14' Caribbean or a 15' Marlin, with a custom-built plank deck substituted for the standard plywood that came with the kit boats. It also has an added windshield like the ones supplied with the Zephyr and Barracuda models. The Caribbean was offered from 1955 to 195...
