Do not put the boat in a heated space. Unheated, gravel or dirt floor is best.

Re: Chris Craft production #'s
I was at the Jerry Conrad presentation and if I recall correctly and this was a surprise to all, the largest volume boat made by Chris-Craft by far, was the 8 ft pram kit boat.

One of the 35 watercraft displayed at the Thompson Boat Rally. She's a 1964 T & T Boats, Inc. 18 ft. Breakers. My brother John and his daughter Anika are pictured. The clan has had the boat since new and she is enjoyed now by the third generation of the Rhude family http://i232.photobucket.com/album...

As of today, 33 boats pre-registered. I expect another 5 - 10 to just show up unannounced. Woot Woot!! There will be one, ah hmmm, Chris-Craft at the Thompson Boat Rally. I promise I will not relegate them to the back 40. The boat and owner will be treated with respect. ;) Saturday 22 June 2013 hour...

Re: Carriage bolts versus Hex Head Bolts
Same strength. They serve a different function. The carriage bolt recesses itself into the wood and is held there static so there is no need for another wrench to hold it while tightening the nut. With a hex head bolt you will need a washer under the head and one at the nut plus two wrenches to tigh...

Re: Big Thompson retrieval
Regarding weight I used the listed weight of the boat in the brochure, just under 2,000 pounds. Added 500 pounds for the engine and outdrive and 1,000 pounds for the trailer. Just estimates. I did not weigh it.

I doubt they ever had owner or service manuals for these boats. I have never heard of one nor seen one.

I'm home! 3,072 miles of driving in 5 days. I went alone, no co-pilot. The boat, engine and trailer probably weigh 3,500 pounds. The mountain passes in Montana east of Butte, MT were the most intense. Floored I could barely maintain 32 MPH going up!!! I was nervous but made 'er OK. Less than 10 mile...

I agree with the log book of your steps. I have done this on all my restorations. Takes a few minutes each time you work on the boat. It is a good record of what you have done and also it helps contemplate of the next steps in your head. Also helps years later if you want to recall what you had done...
