Re: Inside storage in Michigan

Do not put the boat in a heated space. Unheated, gravel or dirt floor is best.

Re: Chris Craft production #'s

I was at the Jerry Conrad presentation and if I recall correctly and this was a surprise to all, the largest volume boat made by Chris-Craft by far, was the 8 ft pram kit boat.

One of the 35 watercraft displayed at the Thompson Boat Rally. She's a 1964 T & T Boats, Inc. 18 ft. Breakers. My brother John and his daughter Anika are pictured. The clan has had the boat since new and she is enjoyed now by the third generation of the Rhude family http://i232.photobucket.com/album...

Re: Thompson Boat Rally

As of today, 33 boats pre-registered. I expect another 5 - 10 to just show up unannounced. Woot Woot!! There will be one, ah hmmm, Chris-Craft at the Thompson Boat Rally. I promise I will not relegate them to the back 40. The boat and owner will be treated with respect. ;) Saturday 22 June 2013 hour...

Re: Thompson Boat Rally

One week until the Thompson Boat Rally. Plenty of room for additional watercraft. Come join the fun!

You do not have to own a Thompson et.al. to participate.

Re: Carriage bolts versus Hex Head Bolts

Same strength. They serve a different function. The carriage bolt recesses itself into the wood and is held there static so there is no need for another wrench to hold it while tightening the nut. With a hex head bolt you will need a washer under the head and one at the nut plus two wrenches to tigh...

Re: Big Thompson retrieval

Regarding weight I used the listed weight of the boat in the brochure, just under 2,000 pounds. Added 500 pounds for the engine and outdrive and 1,000 pounds for the trailer. Just estimates. I did not weigh it.

I doubt they ever had owner or service manuals for these boats. I have never heard of one nor seen one.

I doubt there ever were Owner's Manual or Service Manual for these boats.

You may be able to find information about the engine and outdrive thru engine guru types.

I agree with the log book of your steps. I have done this on all my restorations. Takes a few minutes each time you work on the boat. It is a good record of what you have done and also it helps contemplate of the next steps in your head. Also helps years later if you want to recall what you had done...

The dark line adhesive is most likely resorcinol or phenol resorcinol.

I certainly would never use 3M5200 for a scarf joint in plywood. Use resorcinol if you are proficient with it or an epoxy appropriate for marine plywood.

Resorcinol today does not contain formaldahyde.
