Brass Bell ads
January 2012 I paid to have my Trading Dock ad placed in the Brass Bell but since it has not been published, it hasn't run but my money wasn't refunded nor was I notified that my ad wouldn't be run. The club should not accept money for services not rendered but keep the money or at least extend the ...

Brass Bell ads
In January 12 I paid for an ad to run in the Brass Bell but as there has not been an issue since, the ad hasn't run. I am now informed that the Brass Bell is not going to be running ads and my ad won't run but my money hasn't been refunded and my ad deleted. This seems to be a disincentive to contin...

Trading Dock upgrade
I'd like to upgrade my Trading Dock Ad to "Featured". The directions are to click upgrade to featured but I don't see the link anywhere. Am I missing something or do I have to place a new ad?

Running temp
We have a 180 degree thermostat on our KBL. Before installation the engine temp rarely topped 160 on our (often) 80 degree lake. The 180 degree temp has improved the performance and the fuel efficiency.

Later Rivieras have white pyramid flooring. One piece both front and rear and available from Classic Boating Connection. Early boats probably had the same.

Gas line fittings
Thanks to both Jim & Craig for your efforts. I only need the tank side fitting to make the gas line. I guess I'll have to replace the tank fitting in order to make up a new gas line. Thanks again.

Gas line fittings
Craig,
I'm just looking for the gas line fitting. The tank fitting is OK but my copper fuel line needs to be replaced. I'm happy to buy if you have a spare fitting that can be used to make up a new fuel line.

Gas line fittings
I'd like to replace the copper fuel line in my '54 Riviera. The problem is the original brass fitting to attach to the tank elbow is apparently no longer available. A plumbing/heating tech (an older fellow) remembers the fitting as one used with old gas heaters but hasn't seen one in years and doesn...

I use a "fake-a-lake" to run on the the trailer as does at least one well known engine shop. Works fine and is available at most marine supply stores. Got mine from Overtons.

I suspect that the knurled knobs on the pre-war boats are correct but am skeptical of that on at least mid-fifties boats. While thumbing through a '53 & '54 issue of "Motor Boating" magazine I came across a Champion plugs ad featuring the new "J" plug. The picture showed the older, more squat lookin...

RE sparkplug wires & plugs
I am wondering about the thumb screws on the the top of the plugs--the knurled type as shown on Bill Basler's photo of his K engine? Boy, no idea what you are talking about re the wire being transparent. This era should be black 7mm if memory serves and you should have thumb screws on top of the plu...

Re: Battery?
Your Riviera most likely came with a Willard 6V standard auto type battery(according to my hull card my '54 did). Try www.antiqueautobattery.com. I believe they have reproduction Willard batteries. My '54' Riviera came to me without a battery. Since it it a runabout, how would I benefit using a deep...

Riviera bolt holes??
Our 54 Riviera 18 has two bolt holes in the 3"x3" board just in front of the gas tank with matching holes in the rib just below it. There are washer indentations so there were bolts through it at one time. I've seen others with the holes and at least one with bolts installed (nuts on top so must hav...

RE:What's correct database and picture archive
It appears I didn't make my suggestion clear so I'll try again. While there is significant and documented research on pre-war boats and especially barrel backs, the same is not true for most post-war boats (Cobras and maybe the 20 ft Custom or 19 ft racer would be exceptions). In talking with fellow...

What's correct database and picture archive
I'd like to see the Buzz start a What's Correct (wiki-ChrisCraft?) section to debate and archive what's correct for any given boat. I think this would be a great help to owners trying to preserve/restore their boats as correctly as possible and don't go to the hyper-competitive shows or pay for the ...

The excellent spr'07 Brass Bell article on engine color was a great help to those of us trying to keep our CC's correct without professional (or semi) help. More bad news
I think more needs to be said about the myth of wood boats have always needed soaking before use and the safety hazard posed by running boats on 40 or 50 year old bottoms. When new, Chris Crafts did not need to be soaked to float. We put'em in and out on trailers just like today's boats. Maybe a lit...

Correct engine color
I was struct by a comment in another thread about "period correct engine color". Did CC use different shades of blue over the years? I'd like to trace the ownership record of our 54 Riviera. I have the names of the 3 owners before me and I think the only one I don't know is the original owner. The previous owners are missing, unresponsive or don't remember so I don't know where to look next. The boat was originally sold by Tahoe ...

The slipping under power and weak reverse are both probably caused by the need for the transmission adjustment mentioned in an earlier reply. Making this adjustment should result in both problems going away. It's a reasonably easy job that should only take 15 or 20 minutes and is detailed in readily...

Riviera fuel tank vent fitting
I was docked a fraction of a point at the Tahoe Concours for having a chrome fuel tank vent thru-hull fitting (2 3/8" with 1/2" copper pipe fittings). After studying some Mariner's Museum period photos it appears that a bronze fitting could be correct. The period photos seem to show that most 50's r...

54 CC Riviera 18 details
We entered our 54 CC Riviera 18 in the 2005 Tahoe Concours. Two of the "flaws" were placement of the fuel vent and CC hullside script which were, in fact, correct as a quick glance at the boat and an early 50's CC brochure would demonstrate. This lead me to question some of the other items that the ...
