Re: Water FLow through KLC

Guys Thanks for your responses. The engine has a brass geared Sherwood pump that I refurbished and re- greased just recently. I tested the pump using a drill to turn the drive shaft (slowly) and it pumped. At the first water the pump was getting water past the oil cooler and into the bottom end of t...

Re: Water FLow through KLC

cc-woodboats. Thanks for your prompt response. Apologies for my further enquiry. If the exhaust manifold was blocked, surely the water would be getting from the intake at the rear end of the block up to the exit point on the top/front of the block before it enters the exhaust manifold (or am I mista...

Water FLow through KLC

Firstly, I did search the archives as I can't be the first CC owner to have this issue, however I couldn't find a specific response to my woes (possibly user error!!) I am nearing completion of an 18 month restoration of my 55 Capri (total restoration of the hull and deck) and I did the first water ...

Brass Gear Water Pump - Grease

I have stripped and checked my Sherwood water pump and I am in the process of putting it back together. My question is, How much grease should I put in the water pump?? I ran through the archives and different members refer to 'smearing' or 'applying', etc . Should: a. the gear fins/blades have a th...

OK, sledge is still in the cupboard

The three chromed parts are trim on the wheel, they are individual pieces and removing them won't help

The photo isn't clear, but the central nut is removed. It's the remaining black plate that's got me stumped. I am assuming that I need a wheel puller

Removing Capri Steering wheel

Gentlemen, I am in the process of attempting to remove the steering wheel on my 1955 Capri and have run into a minor problem. I have removed the initial pieces of shiny bits and am left with a black metal plate holding the rim in place (refer to photo below). I have tried to persuade the metal plate...

Define "nice". I dropped the boat off on Sunday at 9.30am and it was 88 degrees fahrenheit......and that's not hot for this time of year - it normally hits 95 plus. It's the humidity that you really notice....it runs at about 80%. When the solenoid on the starter motor failed, I started working on i...

Lay-up, what's that????

Here in Brisbane, the temperature in winter onyl gets down to about 68oF.....not really worth laying-up or winterizing given we us the boat all year round

Seriously, is it worth loosing the packing nuts if I don't intend to use the boat for 4 or 5 weeks?

The engine is as far forward as possible - refer photo of engine mounted almost touching seat framing. I have included a photo of the coupler as well. As a very basic bush mechanic, am I about to bite off more than I can chew? http://s10.postimage.org/r6yue819h/P1000492.jpg http://s7.postimage.org/7...

Capri stuffing box - any other suggestions

Thanks for the reply, however you're a step ahead. I haven't got to replacing the flax yet. I can only get the stuffing nut undone to provide a 1/8th inch gap. It is almost impossible to remove the old flax in such a confined space, let alone try and squeeze the new 1/4inch flax through the small ga...

Stuffing Box on 1955 Capri

It time to change the flax in the Stuffing Box as water is starting to come through (more a stream than drops) I've never done this before and had stupidly assumed this should be relatively easy. I got all excited and started when I ran into the first snag. The problem I have is space. Refer to imag...

KLC Oil Cooler seals

I was in the process of priming the water pump on the KLC (via the oil cooler) and the top cover and the base plate on the oil cooler both separated from the main body. No damage sustained and all bolted back together OK. I ran the engine in the lake yesterday and had water coming out top (alot) and...

I have recently reinstalled the starter motor on a KLC engine after having the Autolite starter rebuilt. I have disconnected the ignition lead and turned the ignition to check everything was in order without firing up the engine. The drive pinion on the starter engages and turns the flywheel (great)...

Any Nautical "Must Sees" between NYC and Niagara

I will be visiting Los Angeles, New York and driving up to Niagara from NY from Mid Sept to Early Oct. My itinerary doesn't work with any of the advertised Boat Shows, however I would welcome any advice from Club members about Boat Museums, etc that I should try and get to. I have been scanning the ...

Changing Registration Number

My '55 Capri has Californian registration numbers painted on the side (gold with black trim). I need to remove the existing numbers to apply the new rego. Question/s 1. Is there a way of removing the old painted numbers without damaging the finish (or am I being naive). I have tried a small patch wi...

I will investigate the direct feed to the pump just to make sure it is not a tank supply issue. Failing that, I'll order the parts from CBC

Fuel Pump - 1955 Capri

This is my first foray into the Buzz since becoming a member. I acquired a 1955 Capri in July 2008 and I have only just got around to starting it up. I have got a fuel supply issue and after much testing and cursing, I believe the fuel pump is the source of my grief (I assume a diaphragm issue as th...
