Re: Horn repair
Tagging on to this old post; I am putting my 1938 CC 19' Sportsman back together after a long restoration and just now taking a closer look at the horn which was not hooked up since purchased so I have no idea if it even works. For sure it is 6V and the boat has been converted to 12V. The (ground ?)...

cutlass bearing length
I need to replace my cutlass bearing. My strut is 1-1/4" dia X 5" long but the only bearings I can find are either 4" or 6" long. This is for a 1" dia. shaft. Will the 4" long bearing work or do I need the 6" bearing and cut it down to 5"?

Re: water intake scoop - facing forward or aft?
Revisiting this old post to clarify the position of the water intake through hull fitting. I did this procedure several years ago but with my boat currently kept out of state I can't readily look at it for reference. I am ready to install one on a current restoration that I initially disassembled so...

repacement coil for a Model B
I am needing to advise as to which replacement coil is needed on my 1938 Model B which was previously converted to a 12V system. The one I am replacing simply says "Use Without External Resister". I cannot find any information specifically for this engine. I have tried Tractor Supply locally and the...

Re: Bungs or no bungs
The topside and transom planks should all have wooden bungs. Not a filler. Your post wasn't clear whether you have already removed any of the topsides bungs. What did you find? I can't think of any substitute for wood that would take stain and varnish and blend with the planks. Send pictures if you ...

Bedding shaft log
I'm getting ready to install the shaft log onto my 19" runabout. It had been previously installed with a (cork?) gasket and some type of bedding compound. I happen to have some Sikaflex 291 LOT handy and wondering if this would be a good product to use for this installation. I know others have used ...

Re: What are you working on during lock downs?
Well, it's been a while since I've posted anything on this site but since you've asked I just finished installing a new 5200 bottom on a 1938 19' Sportsman that I first laid eyes on while attending the 2015 ACBS show in Minnesota while attending the pre-show day cruise on Lake Minnetonka. It was lov...

Re: Engine ID Plate Brass Hammer Screws
Thanks, guys. Unfortunately, the only source I have found for brass is in the UK where they can be found through several sources. I went ahead and ordered some on ebay uk and having them sent to a family member there who will mail them to me. Otherwise, the shipping alone for 6 screws was going to b...

Re: How to increase oil pressure on MBL
Jim, Thank you for your thorough explanation and fast response on this. I will take your advice and first attach an oil gauge di...

How to increase oil pressure on MBL
I just installed a fully rebuilt MBL long block and while the oil pressure was showing to be around 40lbs when tested prior to putting into the boat it is now reading at only 15 +/- lbs on the dash gauge when running at around 2500RPM on the water. The oil gauge itself was rebuilt and has less than ...

Re: Riviera Boot Stripe Widths
I can share with you what I know about the water line on my 1946 Custom which was the predecessor to the Riviera so maybe they used the same configuration. Her is a picture of the original paint lines which were buried under several coats of paint. If you look closely you can see the scribe lines. R...

Re: Boot Stripe Colors
I was about to make a new post this morning on this very topic so I hope it is OK to add my inquiry to this thread. I have a 1938 19' Sportsman that has a red bottom and white boot stripe. Both are wrong. The bottom I know should be copper bronze and the boot stripe should be green. I have the botto...

Painting an original bottom
I recently picked up a 1938 19' Sportsman that is for the most part an original boat. It has been kept in a boathouse for most of its life and otherwise lovingly cared for. The bottom is original and looks remarkably good for its age. I have gone over it thoroughly and have found the wood very solid...

Re: Famowood
Then there is the super glue ding repair method. It works amazingly well but needs to be done over existing stain and varnish as you can not stain over the glue. If you are a member of ACBS go to their video section and scroll all the way to the 3rd video from the bottom titled: Varnish Repair Part ...
Re: Famowood
Chris, I've been giving some more thought to your question and wondering if you can share with the group some additional information. Re: Famowood
I have only used (oil based) Famo on the bottom which gets painted. Where are you using it? Not where you are planning to stain and varnish I hope. It won't look right.

I am looking into keeping my boat on a lift in a covered slip here in Texas and have been looking at a couple of different options to keep the boat protected from the elements like sun, dust, wind, rain, bugs and whatever else that may mess with the boat interior and finish. Re: How to update hull registry?
Steve, Several years ago when I was in the process of restoring my particular boat I took it upon myself to see if I could find how many of the 366, 1946-1949 20' Chris Craft Custom Runabouts produced were still out there. When the registry was first implemented I was asked by the club to enter all ...

Wow...additional dip stick ports. That's so painfully obvious now. It went right over my head. So the screw is actually a dipstick plug. I don't want to mess with it if I don't have to. Oil Leak
I am trying to address the source of oil in my bilge and found a fitting on my engine block that has some oil accumulated around its surface. I'm not sure what this fitting is or how to address it. It looks like a screw of some sort with a ridged perimeter like on a dime. The center of the screw has...
