Don; Porpoising can be a problem with many of these smaller boats for reasons Ray pointed out. It think that two things can make the biggest difference. 1. The center of gravity is to far aft. This is very similar to the CG of aircraft. The CG affects the attitude at which the boat will ride and the...

I apologize for bringing up this topic again as it was discussed back in August 2000 I just need a follow-up on the problem of pospoising of a '63 CC ski boat. I got my boat in the water three times last summer and had a terrible issue of porpoising and must address it now. Comments were made by Don...

Roger; Glad to help you find that special boat. Here are your choices of the production boats both pre-war and post-war. I have listed them in numerical order as to the perceived value and collectability. These are just my observations from years of watching the wooden boat market. Pre-war 18'-20' R...

Quite often the Chris Craft designation for a series of the Hercules engines had a "base" designation. Like "B", "K", "M", and "W". Then there would be more variations. Quite often when an L follows the base letter, it means a long stroke variation of that base engine with, of course, more horsepowe...

I am having a difficult time locating a source for Interlux anti fouling bottom paint. The color I need is 999-Q or 999-G, copper/bronze. Any body know where I can get it?

Thanks

I had Mark restore/rebuild the guages for my Matthews Martinique restoration and he did an incredible job.  Plus, he was able to install electrical 'guts', greatly improving the old mechanical operation of these original units.  For what I received I felt it was a very reasonable cost. It is a natural stain (i.e. no real color in it), simply a nearly colorless filler stain. As you probably know the mahogany is bleached before applying this stain. I'm not sure it is made anymore, I used to have a can of it lying around, possibly can find it if you need it. We recently restored two ...

I don't know of a source for this trim, but for those who do go with aluminum, there are two ways to make it durable. Polish the outside to a nice gloss, just as chrome would be shiny. It won't look the same as chrome plating, but will be close. Have it hard anodized [this grows a layer of transpare...

Where can I get a replacement piece of the trip that goes around the oval portholes on my 58 connie? I thought it was one piece, but actually there's a seperate straight piece of trim that fell off while I was trying to repair it!

Mike,

Take the tank to a local radiator repair shop.  The can boil it clean to remove all of the sludge. They can also pressure test. I did that here in NJ. they also certified it.  Worked out great, $65 is all it cost.

Rayco Manufacturing (they advertise in the Rudder) in Bradenton, FL will make you a new aluminum one for $300 or so. Keep the old one under your bed on a silk pillow in case the future owner wants to go back "original". Rayco is at 941-751-3177. Jeff is very fair. He is presently fabricating two tan...

Bob, With the right glue there's no problems at all. Just sand or saw-cut to clean wood. No solvent-cleaning is needed, and actually interferes with getting a good bond. Cut and fit everything so all the wood pieces fit without bending or clamps to "pull it into shape", and use my Tropical Hardwood ...
