Re: Identify Light
I think I identified it. While searching Portable Light Company I found an almost identical light made by Alpurlite.

Identify Light
Hi all, I would like to identify the spot light in these pictures. It came with the 1956 17' Sportsman that I bought. It was not mounted on the boat. There are no identify marks on the light. I assume it was chrome at one time, but if so the chrome is long gone and it is all brass now. light-3.jpg l...

1956 17' Sportsman Steering and Choke rigging
Hi All, The engine, steering and reverse linkage were all removed from the boat when I purchased it. I am in the process of replacing frames which gives me good access to the forward frames where I believe the choke and steering linkages attach. I will be installing a K engine. I believe there was s...

Table of Offsets 1956 17' Sportsman
I have a couple questions about the table of offsets for a 1956 17' Sportsman. 1. Heights from Rabbet - where exactly is the Rabbet measurement? I assume somewhere on the keel. 2.Buttock-15" - I assumed this is 15" from the keel centerline, but the measurements don't seem to jive with the existing f...

Re: 1956 17' Sportsman 5200 Bottom
Thanks for the confirmation of epoxy for the glue joint. The plan is for a 5200 bottom. I have watched a couple of your videos. They are helpful. Thanks, Greg

Re: 1956 17' Sportsman 5200 Bottom
Thanks for the feedback. I will do as you suggest with one exception. I have done a little research and the consensus seems to be that the thickened epoxy is the best choice for the glue joint.

Re: 1956 17' Sportsman 5200 Bottom
I'm having difficulty finding 17' planks for the Chines. The longest planks I can find are 16'. I'm thinking about using Sapele for the replacement chines and scarfing two pieces together somewhere toward the aft of the hull where the bend is very gentle. Has anyone made their chines out of two piec...

Re: 1956 17' Sportsman 5200 Bottom
Thanks for the input. That's good to hear. I guess I spoke too soon about the Chines being in good shape. Starboard Chine has a crack at a frame around the dash board. Now, what to do about it? I'd prefer not to replace the whole Chine, but I want to do the right thing. StarboardChine.jpg StarboardC...

1956 17' Sportsman 5200 Bottom
Hi All, I bought a 1956 Sportsman that the previous owner started to restore in 2001. He passed away in 2012. I acquired the boat from his daughter so there is limited knowledge of the restoration process. There was a West system bottom on it, but many of the bottom planks were cracked. I have remov...

Re: 1956 Sportsman 17 K Engine Prop shaft length
Here are some pictures of what I have. I have never seen how the motor mounts are bolted to the stringers in a Chris Craft. Do you have any pictures. Does the motor mount bolt go through the stringers or just into the wedged blocks. If they go through the stringers, I don't understand how you would ...

Re: 1956 CC Sportsman Rudder Removal
Thanks guys. The bolt was steel with highly corroded had and nut. I cut the head and nut off and had to drill it out. Not fun!

Re: 1956 Sportsman 17 K Engine Prop shaft length
Jim, Thanks very much. This presents an issue of knowing where to position the engine in the boat. Since the K engine was not in the boat when I received it and the mounts that were in the boat were for some other engine, I'm going to have to figure out where it should be positioned in order to dete...

Re: 1956 CC Sportsman Rudder Removal
Thanks. I was referring to the horizontal bolt when i asked if it was threaded into the arm or if it was just a through bolt with a nut. I could not loosen the bolt so I had to cut it and drill it out. Still working on it.

1956 Sportsman 17 K Engine Prop shaft length
I recently purchased the boat. The owner, who has since passed, bought a K engine and had it rebuilt. It has never been in the boat. There was no engine in the boat when I bought it, but the motor mounts were not Mounts for a K engine. The prop shaft was in the boat, but I suspect it was from a diff...

1956 CC Sportsman Rudder Removal
Hi All, I'm new to the Chris Craft Club. I have a 1956 17' Sportsman. I am trying to drop the rudder, but I can't release the steering arm from the rudder post. I assume there is a bolt that closes the arm around the rudder post. If in fact it is a bolt with a nut on the end, I will cut the bolt if ...
