'48 17 Deluxe rudder

Post by Denis D » Fri Sep 26, 2014 1:29 pm

Does anyone know the correct CC part number for the rudder on my '48 Dlx? I have the factory parts list from 1946 which was the first year of production, it shows the rudder part # as 917, the rudder that came with my boat is # 4225. I am thinking that maybe they changed the rudder between '46 & '48.

Appreciate input from anyone that has their original '48 rudder.

The rudder of a 1947 Deluxe Runabout that I am restoring, hull # 666, has a part number of 917. That boat was completed in March of 1947. Hope this helps you. Howard

Send me your complete hull number and I can look it up. In the late 40's to early 50's Chris Craft superseded several models with small rudder shafts to bigger ones.

Howard, thanks for that info but your boat is quite a bit earlier.

Jim, My hull number is R17-1191 and was shipped on 1/30/1948. Any info you have would be great. I am thinking maybe they went to a larger rudder?

Thanks,

917 was original. 4225 (IBM#04.22-42253) was the replacement for several models after the 917 and 4783 was discontinued and was specifically specified for hull# 1167 and up.

Greg, That's great info, thank you. It confirms my suspicion that my rudder is original to my boat and represented a part number change.
